Dont tell the posters who said he was taking over the HEAVY WEIGHT division....also one should note Hunter is not a top 50 HW fighter who just went 12 with him and NOT a HW fighter himself!!!!!

Yeah I think his fans need to pump the breaks on the heavyweight take over talk for a moment. Not saying he can't be successful in that division but it won't be easy. He's not elusive enough and his punch may not be big enough. We'll see, he closed strong tonight

Ive been studying boxing for awhile...Usyk doesnt have the tools as far as NOW to succeed as a HW...unless he MAGICALLY produces a power punch for THAT weight class...hes ALRIGHT but hes just O.K right now he beat a good fighter hunter but hunter is not even a ranked Hw.

Common sense doesnt ever follow forums any which way!

I agree. I will say he is fighting top talent in a good division and winning. So he is good. Glowacki, Mchunchu and now Hunter are very solid wins. However as you stated his Tools don't translate to heavy. I say stay at Cruiser lot of good fights can be made.

Hunter is also quite inactive for a young fighter, since he hasn't fought in almost year. Although even if he were more active he still would've lost, but wouldn't have gassed out as quickly.

Usyk is good fighter, but needs to get another trainer, such as Lomachenko's father...............

Amazing SPEED for a big man. The referee should have stopped the fight in the 12th.

Interview with Usyk's former trainer James Ali Bashir on the Hunter fight.

Listen to the guff coming out of the mouths of those painfully stupid and ignorant clowns Boxing Beats and Rhymes.

    Taste the bitterness

Apparently Hunter is a LHW who was moving up to CW. He was a LHW who they ''brought in there to get turned up''

Hunter mainly campaigned at SHW in the amateurs and he holds victories over Andy Ruiz Jr., Oscar Rivas, Andrew Tabiti, Cam F. Awesome, Denis Sergeev. Lost on pts to SHW behemoths like Tyson Fury 2.1, Roberto Cammerelle, Islam Timursiev, Robert Alfonso. Lost on countback at HW to Beterbiev.

    Olympic Games results
2012 in London, Great Britain (as a Heavyweight)

    World Championships Results
2007 Quarter-finalist in Chicago, United States (as a Super Heavyweight)

2009 in Milan, Italy (as a Super Heavyweight)

    Other Amateur Results
2006 World Junior Championships Bronze medalist in Agadir, Morocco at Super Heavyweight (+91 kg).

2007 US National Champion at Super Heavyweight, defeating Mike Wilson 25-24 in the final.

2007 US Olympic Trials Gold medalist at Super Heavyweight.

2008 1st America´s Olympic Trials Silver medalist in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago at Super Heavyweight.

2008 2nd America´s Olympic Trials Bronze medalist in Guatemala City, Guatemala at Super Heavyweight.

2008 World Cup participant in Moscow, Russia at Super Heavyweight.

2009 US National Champion at Super Heavyweight, defeating Javier Torres 31-12 in the final.

2011 US National Golden Gloves Champion at Heavyweight, defeating Robert Jekabson by points in the final.

2011 US Olympic Trials Gold medalist at Super Heavyweight.

2012 US National Champion at Heavyweight, defeating Javonta Charles 26-7 in the final.

2012 America´s Olympic Qualifier Gold medalist in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at Heavyweight (91 kg).

These are Hunter's fight weights as a pro (on the scales)

    First fight to last

    212½
    210½
    211
    211¾
    207¼
    205
    218
    201
    200¼
    199
    197¼
    193¾
    198

So yes as you can see he's been coming in lighter of late but he's fought at HW for over half of his fights, come in as heavy as 218, and never fought at LHW in his life.

The heaviest Usyk has stepped on the scales for as a pro is 200½. He usually rehydrates up to about 207-208 on fight night and whilst he was clearly the heavier than Hunter on Saturday night (he outweighed him 207 to 197½), no one dragged anyone up in weight and Hunter has plenty of experience as an amateur fighting HWs, SHWs and much bigger and harder punching men than Usyk, and he's also weighed more than Usyk ever has as a pro on a number of occasions too.

Yes, good work, funny how Hunter is now labeled as a bum whereas before the same posters were saying he'd beat Usyk.

If amateur results are any indication Hunter could be effective in the HW division, I mean a stoppage win in the am's against Andy Ruiz Jr is pretty impressive.

Hunter's a good fighter and going into this fight there was no reason to believe he wasn't. He was unbeaten. He has a very good amateur pedigree, and he fought a lot of top guys in the amateurs and performed very credibly even in his loses. And like Mchunu, he's skillful and has an awkward style. He's confident and very game, had a great gameplan for Usyk and he's got a really good chin - even the much bigger behemoths he fought as an amateur didn't stop him, some of whom are savage punchers.

People underrated him because his punching technique can be quite ugly and sloppy, but the things he does are very effective and deceptively clever.
