..He's already proven to me to have great skills and ability to rival the great fighters of the lower weight divisions. IMO in terms of how he good he is right now, he is IMO already up there with the great featherweight fighters. He just needs a few more people on his resumee for an ATG ranking. I dont believe that "great fights make great fighters". some guys are too good in their prime to have "great fights" with their competition. If anything, in my opinion it downgrades a fighter's legacy if he struggles with someone who he's much much better than. Loma should just keep beating guys at 130-135 and maybe one big fight at 140.
yeh iv allready made the big call, by the time he retires ill be saying he is the best fighter i have ever seen
I wouldnt go quite that far yet but at this point anyone reasonable would have to give him a serious chance against any 126 or 130 pounder in history in a fantasy matchup. The way loma looks vs B-level or better opposition since the salido loss reminds me of RJJ in his prime. Just difficult to see anyone the same size beating him.
B-Hop compared him to Prince Naseem in the way he uses his legs to generate his offense. Could you imagine what a early to mid 1990s Naseem vs current Loma would be like. The showboating, the gamesmanship, the footwork, would be unbelievable. Early Naseem vs current Loma, those dudes would box circles around each other . . .
Hamed was more explosive and was more heavy handed than Lomachenko. Naseem punched at crazy angles that would even surprise Lomachenko. Lomachenko spinning around opponents would certainly give the Prince something to think about and react to. I mean it would be an unbelivable fight. As far as who's better, it's really hard for me to make that calucation. Prime Prince Hamed was otherworldly. Especially the early career of Naseem, like '92, '93 or '94, when he did everything with such ease. I just think Hamed would have such a speed advantage, that Lomachenko wouldn't be able to actually hit him. Though it would be fun to see him try.
I think it's up for debate, and probably deserves it's own thread. It would be an unbelievably entertaining fight. Just with the way that Lomachenko was doing all those hand gestures and showboating and what not vs Sosa (and Sosa doing some of his own too) got me thinking about the Prince and the showboating feinting duels we would see. I mean they'd probably psyche each other out with the speed that they could use to do that kind of stuff.
Hamed was otherworldly. Lomachenko is otherworldly. If you take the early 90s Prince and transport him into current day, we would see two worlds collide if the Prince fought Lomachenko. Lomachenko may be leagues above everyone else today, but I don't agree that he was leagues above Prince. Prince was leagues above anyone in his era. Hamed had 10 KOs in his first 11 fights, all wins. Of Prince's first 30 fights, he had 28 KOs and only 2 of those were decisions. Lomachenko has only 6 KOs in his first 9 fights, including an L. Granted it was a title fight, and he's been in with better competition than Naz's early career, but still. Lomachenko has had more decisions already than Naseem had in his entire career until the last few fights of his career. I think you really need to go back and watch Prince's early career, and visualize how that fighter would fare against Lomachenko. To say anyone is leagues above Hamed was back then is ridiculous.
No chance. He was completely outclassed by Barrera, it was a very one sided fight were he got dominated and embarrassed. That fight speaks volumes for me, that was his stepping up to the elite and he failed miserably. and then retired early. Great fighters like Lomachenko would NEVER be totally outclassed in that way.
I loved Prince Naz when I was a kid, watched the 2 videos I had of his highlights endlessly, I am a long term, big time Hamed fanboy. Having said that, I do believe Lomachenko is levels above him, he is more comparable to Roy Jones Jr like a couple posters before me have said, freakish ability. Naz was 10 times the showboater he will ever be though.
