There is someone out there that has your number. He might be some janitor "GYM RAT" that may never be known but he will beat YOUR FAVORITE FIGHTER, no matter who it is in the past, present and/or future to a bloody mess. I'm a big fan of Mayweather J. in the ring. He has made some great fights happen but there's always that question of what if, if he faced___, he ducked so and so, or _____ beat him up in sparring.

Well judge here for yourself, realize that anyone can get their ass beat by the right guy and take a chill pill. I've been beat up before ,if you have been in enough fights you will too. I stepped in for some "lite sparring" with a "bum" with a 8-3-1 record here in San Diego 2 weeks ago and got dusted. ABG Gang: Any Body can Get it!!

A trainer once told me that Floyd does not spar with anyone that can actually hurt him. He does it to look good, but in his opinion it does not help if you don't learn from your mistakes. That was young Floyd and he has seemed to learn all about himself at this point but if you see him spar today you would think he was undefeated in the gym too. In Michigan plenty of gym know about Floyd getting beat by "RATS". The only pro with courage to fight "RATS" full on was James Toney.

Sparring isn't a good indicator of what will happen in a fight. Lennox Lewis got destroyed in sparring by a washed up Ross Purrity, who do you think would win in a fight?

I heard that a few times too. I actually heard Purrity knocked him out pretty bad with a right hand.

Err, where did both of you guys pick the Purrity/Lewis rumor up from? Legitimately curious.

Mayweather is 84-8, 84-9 as an amateur if you include the 1 walkover loss.
He lost to Castillo, arguably lost to B grade Maidana too.

Paul Spadafor had his way with Mayweather until he didn't want anymore, pleading with his trainers to stop. He literally begged them to end it..

It finished with Mayweather bowed down onto his knees with Paul having to step over his tired worn out conquered frame that laid motionless and mesmerised for over 20 minutes.

He would have undoubtedly had a greater career if he wasn't a loose cannon thug outside of the ring, leading him to have a multitude of runs in with the law which derailed his boxing career somewhat.

I wonder how many times total this has been posted on ESB over the years. Maybe even an average of how often per week or say month.

the story behind this..if i remember correctly...was that spadafora had been in camp for a fight and was near the very end of camp...and floyd was basically just walking in...i dunno how true it is...it doesnt matter because spadafora wouldnt have had a chance under the big lights

    Yeah ****ing right!

He would have skinned him. Paul knows it, you know it and Mayweather knew it, that's why Floyd never wanted anything more to do with him.

As had been said before sparring has all sorts of factors to consider -

    a) Sometimes people are just working on one 'look' trying to throw a specific punch of combination in preparation for a specific opponent - trying the same thing over and over they can look like they're getting their ass beat

    b) Differences in weight/level of preparedness - you never know who is just coming in to camp and who had just peaked etc. and this obviously plays a huge factor in sparring

    c) One fighter may be on his third sparring session that day when he gets 'owned' by a fresher man going in for his first session. People leave crucial bits like that out as they love the drama of their big story.

    d) People embellish stories hugely, I've seen three punch combos being landed be upgraded to have had a guy totally out on his feet and the session stopped.

    e) Some people struggle with certain styles which they try to figure out in the gym rather than the real fight - better to take an L behind closed doors and get it right on fight night right?

    f) People do have off/brilliant days - these can line up sometimes for shocking sessions.

These are just a few of the reasons a name fighter can be seen to have been 'beaten up' in sparring and why that doesn't mean a great deal.

    g) They run into an opponent who is superior technically, physically and mentally.
