http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Sp...-Plans-to-Devote-Focus-to-Bellator-MMA-120031 According to an article from Sherdog, it looks Spike TV will not be renewing their contract with PBC and are going to focus with MMA more. Thoughts, everyone?
Imo I think part of it is cuz of the constant mismatches, garbage fights and serious overpayment of fighters like Berto to fight complete bums. Also none of the top fighters fighting each other had something to do with it.
Americans don't want to watch the aristocratic sport of boxing, they want plebeian garbage entertainment (MMA).
Anyone who's a fan of boxing and not boxers will not be surprised by this. For a neutral the match making has been **** poor for a few years now. Take MMA, Bisping is like Canelo, Romero is like Golovkin. (Not fighting wise but a champ who isn't well respected) let's see how long it takes them to make the fight compared with the two divas we have hogging the MW limelight.
I still support PBC but.... Good, PBC needs to be consolidated to 2 or 3 channels anyway. Haymon and his ego are stuck in the 90s when networks had money to blow. With the internet sucking up those advertising dollars networks can't afford to goof around with revenue loss on vanity projects. I know he pays for time but the network still wants that sponsor driven dollars. Hopefully he just goes to NBC ,FS1, and Showtime. BounceTV and all that other **** is him having a b***h fit about being in control, nobody cares just make the fights.
Good, plus spike is not the only outlet and not the biggest. PBC is going prime time. One ****** don't stop no show.
I don't get Spike with my cable package. But my understanding is that Spike only got one decent fight out of the deal with PBC. All the best fights went to their competitors on CBS and Showtime.
Boxing is full of people who have no business sense... And no, do not tell me Haymon is smart. Didn't PBC get $500 million invested and they blew it all?
Yea EXACTLY When I hear that Haymon is such a genius I just shake my head. Can't be. Not in this boxing business. He still has money left, and I hope he learned from his mistakes, but I have to wonder what's the future like for his company.
Theyres more to this the arrival says its because of the matchmaking that spike thought pbc would make, they thought pbc would matchmake, instead they tried building stars on a 2 year contract which didn't help boxing at all spike just got nothing in return and lost money
