I totally get that, and I understand Kovalev's POV completely. I agree there should be AT LEAST one international judge. But I don't think the fighters should have a say in the matter, nor do I believe this is an advantage to Ward, at least not one he requested.

Deep down, the KANvolev nut hugging crowd knows exactly what's about to happen. Only this time there will be no controversy other than what they're attempting to create in threads like this...

Don't think Kolalev will get robbed twice, if he deserves to win this time he will get the decision . Have a sneaky feeling Ward will get a clear decision win in the rematch

That's what I'm saying! A level playing field or no fight!

And 80% of the population agree that it's 1-0 Sergey anyway! If that dork Ward wants to avenge his loss then come to Russia.

Well... I'm not the least bit surprised ONE side in particular didn't want neutral judges.

Jay Z is going to be the special guest referee and Michael Cole has been drafted in to call the fight.

That is my understanding of it. Duva is the one requesting special treatment that is a deviation from standard protocol, not Ward.

I agree, if you''re fighting on American soil expect American judges!
Duva should have asked for a neutral venue/judges in the first fight instead of risking everything on a KO in the first fight and giving up to their demands in the 2nd.

It is the standard protocol to let the commission decide, but it's also not uncommon when a bout is in the home country of one boxer for the camps to contractually agree that there will be neutral judges. I might guess more than half the time. Really, neither camp is unreasonable. Regardless, the commission will be stupid and asking to be attacked if they assign three Americna judges again.

In a way it's good news. It means Kovalev is definitely going to go all out for the KO

Agreed, it seems that way, although to be honest, I'm generally in favour of "neutral" judges wherever possible. It just eliminates one source of complaints after the decision.

I think you've summed it up very well.

I don't disagree with what you're saying in principle. Not at all. It's just that the way Duva's quote comes across, she's making it seem as if Ward was the one asking for a deviation in standard protocol.

I really think if he goes all out, balls to the wall, he gets Ward out of there within 4.
