Baer was told before the Davis bout that it was a no contest, and acted accordingly.

While this looks bad on his record, it is not particularly relevant.

 

Lack of professionalism is relevant I think.

OK, here's a simple question for the guys in Classic:

Which fight did Baer look best in?

I've seen only the salient points in his career: Braddock, Louis, Carnera and Schmeling.

I put it to you that he looks underwhelming and crude. I can in no shape or form see this Max Baer troubling Wlad in any way.

But maybe I've been watching the wrong fights and am prepared to adjust my opinion accordingly. What should I watch?

My point being that saying Baer was good against tall fighters is about as relevant as saying Wlad was good against short ones.

 

I think you are the one not grasping things here.
"It's very clear to me that Baer was successful primarily because he had a considerable physical advantage over his contemporaries." That was your statement and its just not true, as I proved,by listing many bigger men he beat.
