Not even close. Wilder can starch tomato cans, washed up name opponents and mediocre, glass jawed journeyman - guys pretty much anybody could know it - but that's about it.

Wilder's "power" is as fraudulent as his ability to take a punch. Which is to say, a complete joke.

He can punch but the quality of the opposition matter.

I agree to an extent with Andrewa1 although I doubt Wilder has all time greatest 1 punch power but I can't help but be impressed when I see him putting guys to sleep with a single touch of his right, I was of the opinion he was superior to Joshua in this regard. Am I giving DW too much credit here? (because of his lacklustre opponents)

I know you know your stuff so let me ask you a couple questions,

    1. Who do you think has more single shot power in their 'money shot' punch, Joshua or Wilder?

    2. How do you rate Wilders power? (give me a similar example from history if possible)

    3. Who do you rate as having the most powerful one punch in history?

So would any other top 10 HW of today's era. So that's not a great benchmark.

Wilder definitely has big power, I've been following him for 5 years and his power has always been his biggest asset.
But...Wilder has never stopped a quality opponent in his career to say something like he's the biggest one punch knockout artist in history.
1- I definitely believe that Wilder hits harder, he just got that snap in his punches, Joshua is probably more heavy handed tho.
2- Wilder got that fast delivery on his punches to take you out, but he doesn't have accuracy, technique, balance or timing, so i will probably compare him to Merqui Sosa in that sense, he has the power itself but not the quality to deliver the power over top opposition.
3- P4P i don't think that someone beats Julian Jackson in one punch ko power, he just touched them, he was the perfect puncher, h2h i will say that Lennox Lewis o Joe Louis are my choices.

Yeah. HW's of today's era are too fat for Marciano and Louis. They couldn't possiby resist to all that body fat.

The highest ranked opponent Wilder has fought was ranked number 5 in the world Stiverne, and he failed to stop him. Wilder's KO rate is based on fighting oppoents not even ranked in the top 20, enough said.

This is probably a dumb question but do you think some former HW greats kept a little flab around the body for protection, I'm thinking older Lewis and Holmes for example? Is fat better at safeguarding your ribs/liver etc than muscle or would you need to be so fat that it would be too detrimental in other ways?

It would explain why we don't see many Anthony Joshua body types at heavyweight.

Merqui was a huge puncher, he just wasn't a top guy besides the power, James Toney and Roy Jones called him the hardest puncher they faced and considering that both fought heavyweights, that's a big statement.
Watch his fight vs Charles Williams, the fight was so brutal that the ringside doctor stopped the fight because the fighters took too much punishment.
