Ricky said in his post fight interview "he was better than we thought he'd be" ... they clearly didn't think he was very good and got lucky in russia. End of the day they took a risk in a unification but it went wrong. It was well known people were trying to secure a fight with indongo because many people thought hed got lucky and was an easy title fight..
They obviously did'nt do there homework , still has i keep pointing out , Hearn signed a top level fighter when he took Burns on , Billy himself keeps pointing out Rickys good record and telling us that Ricky is one of the best ever scottish fighters . So it was never up to Hearns to build Ricky up and pad his record , he was already up there its , up to Hearns to get the bIgger paying fights and the belts ,, HE DELIVERED , Ricky did'nt keep his end of the bargain ,, maybee he should bite the bullet and say to Hearn , look Eddie Billy knows me best i want to train with him , and then go see Billy cap in hand .. Who knows maybee with a trainer who knows him it may work out , But presently its not working . Only problem is though is Ricky has to fight the beswt if he wants the best paydays . his time of easy fights building himself up has gone .
You start a thread claiming Eddie Hearn's boxing knowledge is very limited. Brophy barely threw a punch against Groves and was KO'd within 4 rounds. Luckily he didn't sustain serious damage. Has Brophy got anyone looking after him with boxing knowledge?
Brophy just became the first Scot to win the commonwealth title in Australia by stopping Unbeatean world ranked boxer, you stupid stupid man, do your homework son
Ricky decided he needed a change and after his management were told he told me, listen mate Ricky has asked me since he left to train him again. If has Eddie says Ricky is ten levels above what he used to be,then big Eddie needs to start promoting snooker/pool
Hindsight is a great thing. Anyone predicting 120-108 scorecards should have cleaned up at the bookies.. Billy, do you think Ricky should go back down to LW?
Think the difference with brophy and burns is at least groves was a big name. They secured him a big payday with it. As opposed burns who,s fighting guys no ones really heard of that are actually very good...i m not sure for how much. People talking like its a massive paying fight...i m not that sure these fights will be. We know rickys level. Its clearly below indongo. Whats the point of putting him into fights or getting him in these positions if hes not good enough for it. Its not like ricky was making no money fighting kevin mitchell etc. Was selling out stadiums in scotland everytime. Now under hearn his stocks falling completely. off the back of guys no ones heard of. Personally think the moves been a disaster. For me eddies got a job to realise where he was at...which should have been pretty clear in the relationship. Then match him accordingly. Regardless of titles ricky could still pull in a crowd etc. Fair enough if it was crawford...a good payday against a guy a lot more people know about. Or broner. But to give it up against zlaticanan or indongo or almost relikh. Or continually stick him in with southpaws...i cant think of anotber hearn fighters thats been promoted so badly. Fine for the fans. But i mean in terms of career progression...hes sold ricky down the river a bit.
Stupid man? You are arguing that a world champion shouldn't box another world champion - but it's OK for someone to get KO'd in 4 against world level opposition because he won the Commonwealth title 3 fights later!!
Sat was worse than watching paint dry viewing a fighter skip around the ring for 12 rounds happy with losing his title and every round on points. Cannot see the Jock public coming out in large numbers again for his fights given his pre fight statements and producing 12 rounds of turd in the fight. With the exception of the Tony Doshua PPV mugs, people know when they have been sold a pup and rarely fall for the same trick again.
Thats kind of the point i m trying to make jurgen. Eddies somehow took burns from a world champion...seen as scotlands best fighter for years. Selling out places no problem. To pretty much a guy thats just getting embarrased now. Its bad promoting. I think burns needs to man up myself...start taking himself more seriously...claiming he,ll fight anybody etc. The problem is he should have already proven himself by what he,d achieved before. Jumping at every oppertunity eddie gives him. If eddie wont do it ricky would be better getting someone on board that ll make the right moves for him. Tbh ricky should get back up the road to billy and see if hes still got a career to salvage. Moves like that work for some but i think rickys just a bit too quiet to make it work for him down there. Billy was pretty much a perfect fit for ricky. No offence bill but you seem like you ve got a lot to say for yourself...pretty much exactly what a guy like ricky needs or needed.
Burns is 34 now. He left Billy 3 years ago and then went on to win another world title. Take Burns out and Billy hasn't trained anyone to world level.
Come on now the other world title was against di rocco. Pretty sure my nan could have beat him. Its half the reason he got in this predicament in the first place....basically buying him a belt. At 34 obviously burns,s careers on the downward slide...but the guys fit enough. Still seems to have the hunger. Looks like he,ll be fighting on for a while especially with the whole warren situation he got himself into. Hearns just gonna have him fighting puddings then someone too good for him again. Get back and have a serious well thought out career path with billy.
Na just stupid not to say that rickys careers went anywhere but down after billy/warren. Tbf it started to stall at the end with billy. But at least his career had a bit of progression. Under hearn its just been a bit of a farce. Looks like eddies plan will just be the same...safety first fights then rush him into any fight that can make a bit money...rickys sitting there saying i ll fight anyone. Music to hearns ears.
A lightweight's career fading as he's over 30. Fancy that. Just needs Billy to show him how to beat a southpaw.
