Is it any wonder we don't have hardly any boxers or trainers posting on here...

Its all simple , theres no need for bitterness , or slagging off fighters or trainers , or promotors . You have a guy who was brought along very ncely , to the stage he was a world champion and he was selling out stadiums in Scotland he became a national hero , Great stuff , good on him a success story

He then moves on to another promotor , now here lies a problem , new promotor wnts to cash in on the national hero stuff , BUT his guy is a 2 time world champ , you CANNOT sell out stadiums fighting taxci drivers , but deep down you know the boxer is past his best , getting older and going up in weight .

Thats when you relize you have a problem you can't put him in with the elite , because he will not win .. but you still have to promote him so you bag him in with guys who hav'nt made the grade yet , and he loses . you get him a shot at a world title against a relativly unknown , and he loses . Turns out the relativly unknown happens to be a hard punching good moving lanky nightmare of a southpaw . but heh they had videos , theres the internet , Ricky and his managment did'nt look and say we don't want it , they took it , now if they took it and never studied the opponent , he needs a new team .

But that does'nt alter the fact that he's 34 at an age where most guys his weight have retired , he's heavier therefore now in with bigger guys who hit harder , and just plane not good enough at this stage , he's seen his days , he's been at the top , and its probably time to let go , but unfortunatly his move cost him probably most of his lifetime earnings so we will probably see him carry on .

Its not Hearn's fault he can't win , its not Simms is fault he can't win . It certainly is'nt his previous trainers faualt he can't win , Its just that he's gone up in weight , fighting the best and getting old

Should we stop posting facts and worship them like gods instead?

It's about posting what is relevant to the thread. It's not about what other fighters Billy has/is training, that's got nothing to do with Ricky Burns. You're clearly going off topic to antagonise him. Billy clearly doesn't need me to defend him but it'd be nice to have more insight from the professionals rather than a forum made up of just boxing fans.

Think thats spot on twentyman. Seems a waste of time for anyone other than fans to come on here. You dont have to agree with billy but it comes across like little man syndrome with things like you ve only trained one world champion. Its a bit like fair enough if your freddie roach...but if you ve not trained any yourself maybe better to listen to what hes got to say. Think the problem is fans, trainers, boxers are always gonna have different perspectives on things. Your allowed to see things from other peoples perspectives from time to time tho.

Thats the thing with boxing...its not like following a football team unless you ve got a favourite boxer. So its not always in the fans interest for the best interests of the fighter whereas its a bit different from the trainer/promoter or at least it should be anyway.

I can understand a trainer in Billy Nelson questioning Burns opponents as I imagine trainers do what they feel is best for a fighter.

However fans moaning about the level of opponents for Burns and somehow claiming winning a world title at 140 was wrong and them having a unification fight was wrong is simply laughable.

The same fans will moan when they claim a fighter is cherry picking or avoiding certain fighters to face favorable opponents instead.

Unfortunately Burns just wasn't or isn't good enough when facing the elite. Does it mean he should of been forever matched against lower level opponents? Of course not.

Good post liger. My only problem is we knew burns,s level since around beltram. Why then keep sticking him in with guys that are a) a nitemare for him. b) guys without a profile.

Fans still want to see boxers tested. But when it becomes apparent its a level too far...theres no real point continually sticking them in there to get beat with guys that the scorecard pretty much revealed are far too good for him.

Burns also knows he aint got it that is why he skipped around the ring for 12 rounds happy losing every round in the lamest title defence in the history of boxing since his fight v Crawford and Haye v Clit before that.

As a boxing fan, that Burns performance conned the Jock fans.

It is amazing that people still fork out their hard earned because Burns at the presser states that this is a 'huge fight' and 'what I have waited for my whole career'.

That 12 rounds of turd from Burns was pathetic, boring and not even having a go at any point in the fight is the worst of all.

No but once he won that title at 140lbs what's the next step? We can't say Burns should never of won that title as if his not in it to win the belt what's the point. Yes he was lucky to face such a weak opponent to win the belt but what's Ricky going to say when offered a world title fight?, 'no I don't want it'.

I think its down to the promoter/manager saying theres no real point going up a weight to win a belt to then lose it straight away. The weights too big for burns in honesty. Hes not doing anything at that weight...against anyone thats good.

Doesnt matter what level your at...you still need to be built up unless your at elite level which burns never has been. He broke his jaw against beltram since then its just been stupid fight after stupid fight. You can only go two ways continue to chuck him in with the level your wanting and see him lose continually. Or you can try find a path a bit more suitable and maybe end on a big finish big money making fights etc.

To me its getting embarrasing now. He couldnt do anything with indongo. Tbh he couldnt do anything with that gonzales before he chucked it. Struggled against relikh. Zlaticanan. One or two others. How many times before you realise his level and give him a chance to build into something. Stop giving him guys you ve no idea about. Give him guys you know he can beat. Build the names then go bigger after a run of form. The formula should rarely change.

Its just a case of lets get him a fight we,ll make a few quid off. We,ll stick him in with a useless guy till that oppertunity comes along. I like hearn...but i genuinely believe hes lucky hes not had a boxer hurt yet. Things like sticking brook in with golovkin. Not having real career progression for his fighters unlike warren who i actually despise...i reckon will lead to trouble.

Tbf boxings all about levels. Pretty sure burns felt indongos power early...said after the fight felt if he went forward he,d have been knocked out. So had to try and pick his moments.

I had the feeling from the first bell Burns was never going to pick a moment choosing to skip away all fight.

Even after losing every round, you would think he would at least have a go at Indongo from round 8.

Will not waste my time watching him fight again after that non event.

Commenting on the opinion that returning to his old trainer is going to turn 34 year old Ricky Burns into a world-beater is relevant to the thread.

And that's a fair point to make but we both know that's not how you articulated it, mate.
