More from Parker's management: "I spoke to the WBO president a minute ago he said the Furys are claiming to have an injury." Duco co-owner David Higgins said. Asked about the nature of Fury's injury, Higgins said: "I know exactly what it is; their moral compass has broken in half - a nasty fracture of the moral compass. It's not just Hughie, the whole camp has. "That's boxing. Sometimes this sort of thing goes on. They didn't appear to want to come to New Zealand."
Really disappointed, but it did seem ridiculous Hughie was taking this fight. He's nowhere near good enough at this point to take on Parker.
I knew the Furys were going to bail! How can they think wasting their careers/others is okay? I would support 6 month bans for this carry on time and time again...
So, if a fighter has an' injury', wouldn't they first confirm it at a doctor before announcing it. And that would mean they would have the proof, and/or knowledge of the nature of the injury. Why not make this public straight away to retain credibility. These guys aren't even good at bullsh.itting.
Why do I get the feeling Eddie Hearn has played a role here? Would have cost Fury little in terms of reputation had he fought Parker and lost, save a early and brutal KO. And it would have been his biggest pay day with global exposure. So why pull out? Maybe Eddie wants to tempt Tyson back by setting up Hughie vs Joshua. An easy defence, if that's what it ends up being, against a marketable name with the pay off that cousin Tyson may come back to avenge the family name when Hughie is beaten. Would be a bigger pay day too than the Parker fight but not if Parker exposed him in May. Joshua's options for later this year - win or lose against Wlad - are limited it seems to me. Hughie fits the bill nicely whether Joshua is coming off a loss or defending his belts.
Why? He will be planning ahead already that's for sure. I can't see a logical reason why Fury would pull out of this fight unless he has a better offer in the pipeline...
