Don't have an issue with the scorecards for anything guys, you'll get banned for nationalistic trolling for 2 weeks especially if you're a Brit commenting on scorecards from Britain.

Valdez showed a great chin, great resolve, great heart. He has gone 12 rounds now, so he will better his pacing somewhat. Marriaga was just a dangerous fighter to be in there for him in particular so in that respect it was a good performance.
I need to see Valdez-Selby and Valdez-Russell Jr.

Including Ioka and Tapales, in 13-0 (7) for the weekend. :campeon:

I was due a good run of results; it's just a shame it's taken me until the end of April to get it!

@Rock0052 "Vomitrocious" is one of the favourite words of Muffy Crosswire, a character on a cartoon show 'Arthur'.

And now for the first verse and the chorus of the theme music of said show, with some amended lyrics: :sisi1

    Every day
When you're walking down the street
And each official that you meet
Is in the pocket of Uncle Bob

    And I say "Hey
What I wonderful kind of day
If we can get some judges who
Know how to score a fight properly"

Good fight . The 10th was a classic round.

Marriaga was a tough nut. His guard almost impenetrable. Valdez had to play possum and take shots just to catch him clean on the jaw.

You sound awfully disappointed in Oscar, like you're really doubting him after Marriaga gave him such a hard time. But now all of a sudden you think Marriaga is a **** opponent for Loma.

You have these perfectly reasonable responses after such a brutal, close and competitive fight.

    And this one......

So....what this all means is that one of boxing's most ELITE PROSPECTS in Oscar Valdez had a razor close fight against a very tough fighter in Marriaga.
Marriaga is better than we are giving him credit for.
If Loma stops someone as tough as Marriaga, that's very impressive.

Because there's talk about how worthy Marriaga is for Loma and this thread was bumped I had to watch this. Through 6 I have Marriaga up 5-1 and think he's schooling Valdez! Back soon with my full score and thoughts.

The second half Valdez fought on even terms and landed more and harder. Up to the 9th I was ready to declare it a robbery. He landed way more clean, head-snapping punches, and he controlled most of the rounds. Then after Marriaga started dominating the 10th Valdez hurt and dazed Marriaga with a huge hook and knocked him down. Ended up giving it to Marriaga by a point, 114-113. The knockdown 10th saved Valdez, or should've anyway, because Marriaga was winning the 10th to that point and recovered to win the 11th. 114-113 Marriaga. Same score as CST, except the 5th.

I was really impressed with Marriaga. Forced the fight on the front foot but smart movement, class defender, with reactive head movement but especially his guard, good punch selection, good, tricky style. And stuck to his game plan, and was tough to never back down, never let Valdez take over with activity and strength.

I guess it's easy to say in retrospect, but I think you guys were crediting Valdez in the early rounds too much live because you knew him, and were watching him more than Marriaga. I actually thought the rounds weren't just 'close', I thought Marriaga deserved them because he stylistically dictated the action. I had trouble giving Valdez even the 1st, 7th, and 8th because I liked Marriaga's style the whole way. Marriaga schooled Valdez for much of the fight. Valdez doesn't pace himself or vary his attack, throws hard every punch but with little purpose, while Marriaga would composedly pick shots with accuracy. The movement Valdez was given praise for as an adjustment did make him a harder target for Marriaga, but he didn't bring much offense off it or actually frustrate Marriaga. Marriaga doggedly cut the ring off, timed Valdez at times, and Valdez never took over. Valdez doesn't transfer from outside boxing/defending to offense well. Valdez won a couple rounds by staying away then outthrowing Marriaga. But again I look at it as a fight where the kd had a huge effect. It didn't just win him the 10th, but wilted Marriaga, and made it possible for him to stay with Marriaga and win the 12th. If Valdez didn't hurt and knock him down Marriaga could well have run away with a 9-3 win (for me and anyone reasonable watching, obviously Arum filled out the scores for the judges).

Marriaga put up a solid effort against Walters too but Walters showed the much better, more difficult attack of combination punching for him than Valdez. Marriaga's obvious weaknesses are that he's pretty slow and his right hand punching technique is simply poor. And Loma is going to exploit that. The stylistic deficiencies Valdez has are in fact some of Lomachenko's most brilliant assets. Loma has the speed, punching accuracy, ability to turn defence into offence, and timing that Valdez doesn't and won't have difficulty at all with Marriaga. Marriaga's a solid, deserving contender, but after maybe a close opener I think he's made for Loma. With his style and range it might not be the offensive display Loma dished out on Sosa, that's all I'll give him.

Kush is a joke... He had Jacobs winning 10-2 against Golovkin. Either a complete idiot or a very consistent troll.
