Carlos V the big punchers from various eras? Tommy hearns? John mugabi? Iran barkley? Nigel Benn? Gennady Golovkin? How's monzon doing against these guys?
Their punching power is less relevant than what he would do to them, I think. You'd need more than just power to hang with Carlos.
Who do u think has the quality s, beside been a big puncher, to give Carlos a hard fight, from the list above?
Golovkin I can see testing monzon. With his style and power. Hearns to would be a hard fight. But Tommy was vulnerable to clear precise punches which monzon was good at. Tommy would be best trying to out box Carlos rather than go for a ko. That would be counter productive against monzon. Benn is dangerous but Carlos to elite. Stops Benn late. Barkley gets picked off. Mugabi could give him a decent fight, the same version that took on Hagler. But ultimately it's monzon scoring a ko. So Golovkin is the danger man imo
Pretty much how I see it. Golovkin has the chin and the footwork to stay in the pocket with Monzon and to force the fight on him. His power is important too, but the kind of pressure he brings is why I picked him. I picked Hearns for his combination of speed, power and ranginess. He'd be just about the total package one could ask for of a fighter @ 160 except for his chin wasn't nearly as good as the rest of him. I think Tommy presents a unique challenge because he could go from slickster to slugger as required. Not easy for even a dude like Monzon. The other guys are all very good too, and I wouldn't write them off either, but I think Monzon ought to be able to handle them.
Yep, Tommy present s a lot of problems for monzon, if he gives him movement and doesn't get dragged into the trenches. Monzon will eat Tommy up if he had him close range. But potentially a winning fight for hearns
I still think Monzon did not face any natural middles his size and has a thin resume facing fast fighters or big punchers, which most on this list were. Of the below names GGG would be his toughest match. Probably 4-1 for Monzon here, maybe 3-2. Tommy hearns John mugabi Iran barkley Nigel Benn Gennady Golovkin
No chance Monzon, beats them all, Hearns and GGG give him a hard fight but he still beats them, but he beats the other 3 with little problem.
The underlined is an ignorant statement that has been corrected by me before. Monzon defended against: Bouttier x2 Bouttier is 5'9.5"and scaled 159.5lbs, his ko % is60%. Licata was bang on 160lbs Mundine another big hitter was 5'10" 159.5lbs his ko% is 67%, he fought all the way up to heavyweight! Briscoe 5'8" big puncher, 157.5lbs ko% 55%. Tonna big puncher 5'9.5" 159.5lbs ko% 65%. Bogs 5'9.5" 159.75lbs He was both Euro & Light heavyweight champion! Benvenuti 5'11"160lbs. All these compare very favourably physically with former great middles such as. Ryan 5'7.5" Greb 5'8" Walker 5'7" Zale 5'7.5" Cerdan5'8" Tiger 5'8" Hagler 5'9.5" Lamotta 5'8"
Monzon beats them all. Hearns provides the biggest challenge, due to his physical stature and style. Hearns forces Monzon to take some risks; apply pressure, shorten the distance and exploit Hearns' vulnerabilities. Barkley could be interesting, as well. Again, physical stature would play a part but Barkley, in contrast to Hearns, could be the one applying pressure on Monzon, with Carlos perhaps fighting off the back foot and picking him off. Either of these bouts could end in a stoppage win for Monzon. But, if not a stoppage, a comfortable to wide UD would ensue.
Monzon beats all of them. I think GGG gives him the toughest fight overall. Hearns gives him a good fight stylistically, but doesn't have the physicality to stay with Monzon 15 rds. Benn's power and quick right hand pose some problems, but problems that Monzon has adjusted to and solved. Monzon is at or near the top of the food chain @ 160.
