Porter did a good job , but he was fighting dirty at times and he doesn't seem to progress under his father. I think he needs another trainer , if he wants to be a real threat to the likes of Thurman , Pacquiao , Spence Jr. and Brook.
The thing that struck me (besides Porter headbutting) was that Berto's cutman looked like he had the shakes and couldn't even close the cut.
Ugly fight, but Berto thoroughly got mauled and broken down, which I really wasn't anticipating, but Berto is clearly not fighting at a high level anymore. It's safe to say he's a journeyman now.
He was getting mauled in the Guerrero fight and Soto Karass. He needs to retire. Shawn Porter is predictable but he's effective.
Porter beat Berto as expected, but would still lose to the best 147 fighters. Porter still has no jab and is all aggression, which is no good against a skilled fighter that sets up their shots.
I wonder if Berto will stick around another several years, and end up with a very unflattering looking record because he just can't give up the sport and is being passed around as a name on a resume.
Roy Jones Jr syndrome. Listening to him talk about his career last night in the build up to the fight, he reminded me of Roy at times.
Ugly fight not as entertaining as I anticipated. Berto is pretty much done and Porter has hit his peak. Thurman beats him again.
Predictable fight with a predictable outcome. It was somewhat entertaining, either way so I appreciate it. Porter needs to learn to relax and pick his shots better. Porter is also one dimensional and seems to rely on out-muscling his opponents which is somewhat of his down fall against fighters who can box him from the outside or fighters who are just as big as him. He's very capable of picking up a title when one becomes available, but as has been confirmed twice already, lacks the talent to be able to beat the best in his division.
