Sharkey didn't see it coming, either. That tends play a factor as well.

He scored 71 KOs for god's sake. How many of those 71 KOs have you seen? How do you know he didn't do that many times?

    Sharkey never saw it coming.

If you are right I would agree. Jim Maloney, who did not have much of a chin, twice went the distance with Carnera without hitting the canvas.Tommy Loughran went the distance despite being outweighed by 84lbs, he wasn't floored either yet Jack Sharkey, whose ko % is an unimpressive 24% dropped Maloney twice before koing him in their last fight ,he also ko'd Loughran in one of their bouts yet giant Primo ,who has this awesome ko percentage, couldn't floor either of them.Don't you find that curious?

How many of them were Kosher? His manager said all his early fights were fixed! If they were legit ko's why isn't he in the top 100 hardest puncher list? Why has he never featured in any serious discussion about hard punching heavyweights?

Save your breath he wont see it, he didnt see the punch Louis landed at the end of the 1st rd vs Marciano, after 300+ replies, Rez and others, slo-mo'ed, isolated the shots he still didnt see it. Next Sharkey's wifes brother and uncle will chime in saying that Sharkey on his death bed told them that he threw the fight. lol
No matter what you say or what article or quote is posted there is absolutely no definitive proof, it's all hearsay including of all people his wife, the manager and whoever else he can pull out of his hat.
I dont understand why he roots around on a fighters faults and losses rather then maybe see the fighter deserves a little respect and credit. In the Baer fight in injured his leg after the first KD, Primo kept getting up, vs Louis he kept getting up, where Maxie quit. WHY???

We know Sharkey's Wife had her doubts about the legitimacy of the ko, because we have it from Sharkey's own mouth in a taped 1971 interview. Now would you like to dispute the authenticity of his statement?

The answer is not complicated, that he isnt on anybodies list does not vindicate your pov. Why is that a point? He wasnt a murderous puncher as most of those in the top 100 were. He was a big man, with 260+pds behind his shots. Emile Griffith of all people dropped D ick Tiger, Griffith was not a huge puncher and Tiger had never been down. You dont have to be a big puncher or be in the top 100 punchers to knock somebody down or out. Why cant it be that Primo caught Sharkey with a good shot.

I respect any man who climbs through the ropes having done so myself I know what it takes.
    I've never questioned Carnera's courage.

The following are just some of those fights that are believed to be fixes ,or bouts in which opponents did not give of their best.
    Godfrey
    Neusel
    Christner x2
    Peterson
    Wiggins
    Schaaf
    Stribling x2
    Gorman
    Lodge
    Rioux
    Chevalier
    Clark
    Wright
    Clisby His sparring partner
    Harris His sparring partner
You can add to these all those from 1928 to 1932 that his first manager says were fixed.

Can I prove it ? No, but I don't have to believe they were straight either! Each will follow his own course you yours I mine , and I don't need to get personal to make my points.

His KO percentage is 69 percent. That's why he's not mentioned in any hardest puncher ever discussions.

And the guy fought a 102 pro fights. Whether some of his "early" fights were setups or not doesn't really matter when you fight 102 bouts.

Most matchmaking in the early part of a fighter's career is just as bad as fixing. It's not like most are matched with anyone early on who has any chance to win. Carnera fought tougher opponents EARLIER than most guys do.

Now we're throwing out footage and the statement of the guy who was actually hit and basing it on the opinions of wives?

    Wives?

Should someone start a thread on the ridiculous statements made by fighters' wives?

Let us suppose for the sake of further argument that Sharkey did catch Carnera with a good shot.
As did Nunn v Kalambay,as did Benitez v Hope. Why couldn't he make a dent in light heavyweights and soft chinned heavies that had been kod by light hitting men?

I am not disputing anything, I will dig up Jack "clutch n grab" Johnson confession, fighters do it all the time, could be Sharkey might have been embarrassed that he got ko'd or who knows. Please post this interview so that we can see for ourselves. Even then there is a vid of the ko. Tyson ko'd Sammy scaff with a wrist shot, it happens. Clutch n Grab and now Sharkey great actors when put down. Sharkey waited for that one shot and then he went into his theatrics, yes that makes sense.

Simple he didnt catch them just right, with Primo, he was slow and ponderous and catching guys especially faster smaller guys, is kinda difficult. It happens try to accept it.
