Reasons Wlad "didn't let his hands go" first time against Fury ??

So here we are again with a Klitschko fight week on our hands and I wonder will these same excuses hold up if Wlad loses to Joshua or will it be void if he beats AJ in good fashion?
I don't make excuses for fighters because someone has to win or lose but but we will see him tested again Saturday.

It's hard to tell when a fighter isn't throwing punches because they're not confident of doing so and when they're physically incapable of doing so, though with Wlad I'm more tempted to say it was the former in the case of the Fury fight. Wlad's always been a man who needs to be in total control. Fury never gave him that comfort zone, and Wlad was left constantly trying to figure him out for the whole fight. He didn't seem to understand how the fight was slipping away from him until the final round, when he finally woke up and threw caution to the wind. Far too late by that point of course, but it lends a bit of credibility to the idea that he was simply out thought and outboxed rather than unable to pull the trigger.

I've always tended to believe along these same sort of lines.

I think he's very eager to do what he should have done in the Fury fight on Sat. The time is now! He needs to fight smart but when he sees that opening... he can't second guess himself. He needs to do what Emanuel kept telling him.

It was the size and agility of Fury that surprised Wlad in that fight that kept him cautious throughout it. That and coupled in with his age which has finally caught up with him imo. AJ though not highly experienced has several of those intangibles Fury had in the Wlad fight, which are Youth, Agility, amongst other key weapons he brings to the ring Saturday night like strength and power.. It's AJ' time to shine.

On the whole I agree with you, but AJ's style is much more "Wlad-friendly" than Fury's. I still have no idea who will win.

Thing is it wasn't Fury's strength and power that beat Wlad but his unpredictability. Wlad simply couldn't get a read or what Fury was going to do and, without being funny, it shut him down mentally. You could see he was looking to land shots, but was never in quite the right position to do so. A few times he made a few token lunges, but Fury was easily able to evade them, which made Wlad even more gun shy.

It wasn't really a matter of age IMO, but of style. Wlad had cultivated an ultra low risk style that minimised all unnecessary risks, which worked fine so long as he was in control and able to land his own shots, but became his downfall against a man who never fell into easy rhythms. As feather fisted as Fury was (and I don't believe he's feather fisted at all) Wlad wasn't going to throw any punches when there was a good chance they'd miss or leave him open for a counter. Unfortunately that meant he threw next to no punches for eleven rounds.

Why it took him so long to twig that he was getting outboxed I don't know. Confidence in his ability to eventually bring things under control, a disdain for Fury's boxing ability, a refusal to believe he was actually down on the cards, general befuddlement. You could pick any of those things and have a case.

How much of any of this will influence the outcome of the Joshua fight is kind of uncertain, of course. Those one and a half years might genuinely have aged him so that all the above becomes moot. Or he may find himself up against a much more readable opponent, albeit one with dangers of his own, and we may, just may, see the old Wlad back again. It'll be a blast finding out.

Yeah, I genuinely feel totally up in the air with this one. Good to feel that before a big heavyweight fight.

Vlad was not focused, he had some personal problem, not a secret................Vlad seemed to have lost his spark for both the Jennings fight and the Fury fight, his mind was not there. However, for this fight, Vlad looks completely different...............Joshua's camp thought Vlad was over the hill, but after watching him today, he looks fantastic!!!!!!! He has that spark!!!!!!! Watch Vitali's latest interview, it's on video, Vlad has his balance, is light on his feet, using lateral movement, worked on his head movement, angles, his hand speed is really good, Joshua looks slow, not the same, Vitali said, earlier, that if Vlad was focused for this fight he would win, easily, Vitali said today Vlad was focused, really looking good, when asked if he was worried about Joshua's danger early, Vitali responded that Vlad would be dangerous early, Vitali was confident, if he was not he would say so, that's how Vitali has always been............Vlad knows Joshua in the ring from sparring.............he knows what to expect...............compare the two from today..................I think Vlad will win this fight to most fans surprise..............

Nah , his reflexes were still visibly there in abundance. He put all his efforts into defence to avoid taking a stoppage loss. Look at his legs. Same as there were against Haye. Agile and reactive.
Fury just had the size , talent , skills and feet to beat him from range. He was stronger than him on the inside as well and that freaked Wlad out to the point he turned his back on him constantly over the 12 rounds.
