Been watching a bunch of him lately. A ton of heart brawler who loved the trenches and had some real skill there. Twice beat JL Castillo by stoppage and beat Ivan Robinson, too. Anyone know more about his career? Somehow, he was never really on my radar during his prime. I don't know how I overlooked him tho I remember the name. Catching up now. RIP
My guy, Jesus Chavez, who fought him said he was the toughest guy he ever fought. He comes from the same school as Canelo. I loved his style, short chopping shots inside. A tragic aside Chavez and Jauregui won the '35 pd title from Leavander Johnson and both stopped Johnson in the 11th rd.
An iron chinned fighter to be sure, while at his best. Suffers a bit from having an "ugly" early career record similar to other Mexican pressure fighters like Orlando Salido and Victor Rabanales. Often happens in the meat grinder that the Mexican regional scene has always seemed to be.

Jaurequi, for the Provodnikov was no longer with his longtime trainer Chepo Reynoso, the guy who raised Canelo from scratch. Jaurequi was a rough, tough counter puncher with short crisp shots, Chavez said, what bothered him most was Jauregui's left hook. BTW Chepo, worked Chavez's corner for the Julio Alvarez, and Jaurequi called Chavez to wish him luck, they were long time friends after they fought. Fighters respect each other and support one another rarely jealous of each other. Jaurequi was always asking me for a rematch, I told him, why? No money. The real reason Jaurequi was a rough, tough guy and we were no# 1, why risk it?
