You and others are looking too much at mental qualities. You look beyond that at arguably the biggest most relevant fight career qualities and they are strikingly similar: A Course of career to time of first exile(Fury doesn't have defenses, but of course it can't be identical) B. Primary physical qualities of fighter as compared to his era.

Nobody's saying he's the heroic figure Ali was. But it is turning a blind eye to ignore the unusual similarities the two fighters share.

I'm not looking too much into it. Fury's lack of mental stability is primarily why his career is in the toilet. Ali who faced far more adversity didn't fold like him. I don't want to repeat cliches but boxing is a sport that is mostly mental. He couldn't handle the pressures of carrying the title and caved in a matter of weeks. It closely resembles the collapse of Leon Spinks who after beating Ali quickly fell apart from cocaine addiction and moonshine. Unlike Spinks however, Fury didn't even have what it took to get in the ring to defend his title.

As far as there in ring abilities go, they really don't have a great deal in common. Fury is a decent trash talker, that's about as close as the two are related.

Both relied on great size and movement for their era, and had average power at best. Can't get much more in common with ring abilities than that. Their styles were tremendously similar

    Still looking eerily similar

Both undefeated Ali & Fury make comebacks against an undefeated champ, despite having 3 years out in exile & having fought 2 return fights prior. Both then go on to having great fights and both get dropped by a left hook in the final round. Neither win.

If this era goes the way I believe it will (golden era), then Fury looks to be taking the role of the modern day Ali.

    And so it continues

He will beat Wilder and AJ with ease this year

He is the Ali of our generation. 6'8" 260 pounds of slick gypsy king.

Fury's way of talking **** and dancing just outside of range while landing his jab at will is pure Ali... He makes his opponents look stupid by making it look so easy, which forces them to expend all their energy trying to knock him out.

He's just missing the killer finishing instinct that Ali also had.

It's plausible. I know people will get their backs up at such a comparison, but having grown up in the Ali era and watched him do these things, it did occur to me that when Fury beat Wilder - as he clearly did, whatever the judges say - it culminated a similar, if certainly not identical, comeback journey. Of course the rest of the Fury story has not been written, but if he beats Wilder in a rematch or defeats Joshua, there will be less objection to noting the parrallels that are already there for the unbiased to see.

Both were brutally deposited on the canvas and got up during career defining fights.

Ali was filled to the gills with PEDS when he fought Larry Holmes.

Lol hahaha Ali was always in shape , good looking and had a beautiful style to watch, good defence and iron chin , Fury is the ugliest and most overrated boxer alive . He couldn’t beat old wlad convincingly and drew with wilder because he has no chin and that’s where his “achievements” end. Many of wilder’s oponents were able to outbox him do you think they all were special? They couldn’t be more different .
