Was Joshua a little dirty and cagey? I think so, he hit twice on the break ( landing one low blow ), and conveniently spit out his mouth piece when he needed a breather. If I were the ref, I would have let the action go. Fighters who lose their mouth pieces without taking a hard blow are looking for breaks, when when they are tired and hurt, its easy to see why. On dead legs, the extra time could have given Joshua what he needed.
Just watched the 5th and 6th again and no doubt he employed some tactics i would not expect off a 18fight pro. The mouth piece was after a soft shot and a break with added time. Looking at the 5th again i think he was more on soft legs than gasses out he has eaten some very hard shots and a nice uppercut or 2.
I don't think Joshua was dirty, because he didn't land any blantant low blows or anything. I know he was warned for a low blow in the clinch, but it didn't look particularly blatant. I actually thought Joshua showed some ring savy that we don't ususally see from such an inexperienced fighter. Like with spitting out the mouthpiece, that's something you'd expect a veteran to do when in trouble, not a guy with only 18 pro fights necessarily. BTW do you think he spit out the mouthpiece intentionally or was he just breathing so hard it fell out accidentally? When the mouthpiece came out, I thought it helped both fighters, because Wlad was tired too. But in retrospect that may have bought Joshua some much needed time to recuperate.
Correct. AJ's a cagey one and can be dirty, but his stamina vs. a fighter who is not 41 and out of the ring 1.5 years will be an issue if he fights someone decent. When he was floored, I think the ref also took his time checking him out. A few seconds of home cookin' in front of a very large pro Joshua crowd. Wald's biggest mistake was not using his jab sooner, as it was working better late, and letting Joshua off the hook when he was hurt on dead legs. But Wlad's an older fighter and had to conserve his energy. In what I hope his last fight, he proved his heart and chin were better than the critics have questioned for years.
Oh I do think it was intentional in him losing his mouth piece because it was not from a punch. AJ took a nasty swing on a break after the low blow break. He can be a little dirty. The ref had the ability to let the action go when the mouth piece came out. He chose to halt the action giving a very gassed Joshua what seemed to be 20 seconds to time to re-fuel without moving or being hit. if Wlad had those 20 seconds back, he might have won. Joshua deserves credit for the win, just calling it like it happened.
I just remember that one where Joshua threw a punch wildly that sort of hit the ref. But yeah no question Joshua got a little wild when he gassed in the middle rounds, but I wouldn't call it dirty. Lets put it this way, I've seen fighters fight dirty before, but after this fight I didn't come out of the fight thinking Joshua won by being dirty.
Not with low blows, hitting on the break, or spitting out his mouth guard to take a break. Clinching is not being dirty, and he lost a point. You can not deny Joshua did not do all of the above. His low blow was Hopkins style, to the opposite side of the ref's viewing angle.
I'd forgotten he'd spat out the mouthpiece to buy time. Didn't think he was that dirty, is not a dark arts practitioner.
One lowblow? Maybe, i missed it. I remember spitting the mouth guard, should have gotten a warning. Let's not make excuses though, Wlad lost.
