where did the term "cab driver" originate in Boxing lore?

    you are, I am sure, heard it

    it's pretty much an alternate term for "bum" in boxing

    so where,when, how did it originate?

    First time I heard it was Greg Haugen criticizing JCC record because according to him, most of his wins are from Tijuana cab drivers. After he got annihilated, Haugen then commented something like "they were tough cab drivers after all".

    This is, to my understanding, the origin of the term - or at least what popularized it. Before Haugen said this, I never saw this term used as synonym for tomato can, but afterwards it became quite common.

    Most fighters can't afford to just train and fight, they need a job or at least a part time gig. Cab driving boxers are common in mexico.

    Yes I remember that
