Does Prime Dempsey become undisputed heavyweight champ today?

Given that they all forget everything they've learned of the sport, lose 60% of their athleticism, be at least 37 in 1919 years, and take 4 years off..

 

No. Dempsey wouldn't have the motivation to be as brutal and ruthless. Poverty today is nothing compared to the early 1900s.

But let's say that coincidentally Dempsey becomes as savage as he was back then I think he would become champ definitley. He wouldn't have to weigh in the 180s-190s to keep up with the speed of lighter men. He would be eating 6 meals a day, lifting weights on a program designed for athletes, and not have to fight 15 rds. He comes in around the 215-220 mark. I think he would carry it pretty well and not be over-bulked, at 192 he was relatively skinny and had a lot of places to add weight on his frame.

However, if he sits on the titles for a few years like he did originally he would get stopped eventually in return bouts. Probably by a shw with good mobility, speed, and a good punch like Parker(if Parker progresses nicely at the rate he currently is).

I think the athletes are evolving and are getting bigger and stronger (that nugget can really go without saying)...But certain athletes stand the test of time...Is Dempsey one of those? He seemed to have a different ie tougher mindset...How much would determination for survival play a part in a fight? Would the fighter with the harder upbringing have an edge? Would that factor even play a part? I wonder if
Dempsey viewed a fight as sport? Or survival?...Could the smaller man take the sheer pounding a bigger man could dish out? Would the bigger man tire faster in a quick paced fight?
I guess each side could be argued into the ground...and I can see each side. I'll just say that I think certain athletes can compete in any era, because of their abilities. Sometimes a fight is won, because a competitor is willing to go to a place his opponent isn't willing to go to...Do you think Dempsey is one of those?

 

How long do you think Tommy Gibbons would last with Joshua? How about Bill Brennan? Do you think anyone would OK a bout with Wlad and Carpentier?

 

Dempsey absolutely dominated every single one of those guys. Gibbons ran, Brennan ran, Carpentier ran. They were runners because if they stood and fought the way they did with everyone else they would have been bulldozed in a round tops. In fact Dempsey was told NOT to take Carpentier out until the 4th when he got the ok. These weren't close fights in the slightest. Dempsey outclassed them in every facet of the game.

It would be pretty damn hard.

But to be fair, who isn't it really hard for?
It's going to be hard for Fury, Wilder, or Joshua to pull away from the pack.
It's going to be just about as difficult for Dempsey.

I favor him over the others to do the best if they all fought each other.
I think I would favor Wilder over him.
