Which rated ones? Ray Impelletiere 7-3-0? Wilson was stopped because of a deep cut on his eye the fight had gone under 2 minutes! Wilson was stopped 10 times including being kod by moderate hitting Lastarza and he was 21 lbs lighter than Joshua. Hardly a good indication as to how Marciano would fare against a quality super heavyweight LOL
Until he fought Wlad, who were the "quality super heavyweights" that Anthony Joshua had met? Was it the wonderful Eric Molina, or perhaps the fabulous Charles Martin? If Marciano had of went life and death with 37 year old Joe Louis (who was active and on a win streak, a deserving #1 contender) we would never hear the end of it. People want to discard that win as it stands. But Wlad can be absent from the ring almost as long as Larry Holmes was when he fought Mike Tyson four years older than Joe Louis was for Marciano... There is a super heavyweight double standard going on here...
I was more debating along your line that he would get stopped every time by a very good 175, not so much win. This is particularly so in recent decades where we have had the 12 round title fight. I'd agree 175 would overall be a step too far, but he could perhaps beat some fringe "very goods". He'd certainly go 12 with plenty of them imo.Surprisingly he was often outmuscling Maxim in close and manoeuvring him how he wanted. Maxim wasn't very tired because he simply wasn't doing much at all and was getting resoundingly outpointed. I'm not totally convinced SRR would not have won on a different day.
Louis was never the same after the war he said his last great fight, when he felt like his old self was against Tami Mauriello in 1946,that is over 5 years before he fought Marciano! Holmes was already past his best when he retired otherwise Spinks would never have beaten him in the first place! Fighters age at different rates depending on a variety of things , not least their lifestyle, how much mileage they have on the clock how many punches they have taken etc .Dempsey was past it at 32.Tyson too,Carnera was gone at 29 so was Tom Sharkey, and Joe Frazier as far as their prime was concerned.. Wlad lives the life, he has never been seen out of shape. The Wlad that fought Joshua would have turned the 37years old Louis into mince meat He proved he had his legs all through the fight , still had his power ,and was in excellent shape ,the lightest he has ever been in fact.
I appreciate your explanation and admire your eternal optimism for this "improving with age" theory that applies only to opponents of fighters being matched with the legacy of Rocky Marciano..
My bad I glossed over the light heavyweight part. Even then Moore was on a 21 fight win streak and had beaten top contender Nino Valdes.
Robinson was just as tall as Kovalev and has the same reach. Andre Ward isn't the fighter he was at super middleweight. That lay off definitely cost him. You forgot to mention that past prime Robinson knocked Fullmer out cold, stopped Jake Lamotta, and beat Jake Lamotta 4 other times at middleweight and even with a gaping weight disadvantage.
I never suggested or implied a fighter improves with age, I believe that Wlad's performance against Joshua was his best for some time, which means that he gave subpar performances in those earlier fights. Do you think the Louis of the Marciano fight was anywhere near prime? Do you think the 40 years old Archie Moore was? How about the 37 years old Walcott? Do you not accept he was a better fighter 6 years earlier when he challenged Joe Louis? Want to answer my question who all these rated SHvys that Carnera beat were?
so Robinson is 6ft 1/2" now? 5 9"-10" ive always seen him stated as...Why not talk about the fights he lost at middle ??? we know hes good, but hes easily beatable at 175lb against the solid fighters its produced over the years. Hes not even the best middle ever, far from it imo
He was still by his own admission past his best, yet dropped and badly stunned Marciano, according to Rocky himself.
