Prime Mike Tyson vs the Joshua of today?

You're wrong , Anthony Joshua wouldn't try to escape him , he is stronger and he would go for the knockout.
Mike Tyson couldn't handle that , it would be similar to Holyfield vs Tyson , the only difference is that AJ is
a lot bigger and stronger than Holyfield.

 

Mike Tyson would have put AJ to sleep. Anyone who think otherwise with the sort of chin AJ has must be crazy. And even if he had a good chin (bear in mind eveytime hes been hit he has wobbled or gone down) Mike would have been far too ruthless and too quick for him. People who are going on about size difference Tyson KOD big heavies e.g. Bruno.

 

if AJ beat Wlad without getting hurt and blasted him out in two rounds I'd agree with you more. he looked very Bruno like when he was reeling on those ropes, lunchtime for Tyson. AJ proved he had a lot of tools and heart but he also showed he was vulnerable. lets not get carried away and assume he would beat the all timers just yet...

 

Prime Holyfield would have a better chance against AJ.

Frank Bruno was smaller than AJ , he was only 6ft.3 and AJ is already better than he ever was , Tyson being an all time great has nothing to do with this matchup , this should be ignored to make an unbiased prediciton.

Tyson always had problems with fighters taller than 6ft.4 , Mike Tyson also is one of the most overrated fighters
ever , people tend to overrate him because he was so beautiful to watch.

Wladimir Klitschko would have beaten Mike Tyson , he would have a good chance to beat him at 41 years old ,
Wladimir is still top notch.

Mike Tyson even said himself that he doesn't know wether he would have beaten Wlad or not , i have seen
a lot of fights from Mike Tyson and he has not that kind of resume to say that he would have beaten the bigger
elite guys , he was destroyed by his best opponents , Holyfield and Lewis made easy work of him.

 

Evander wasn't further removed from his prime.

A comparison between AJ and Evander doesn't tell us much. We all know about triangle theories, with the most famous one being: Ali, Foreman and Frazier.

Joshua could have beaten Evander, Evander may always have beaten Mike, but Mike would have had a real chance of beating Joshua. I'd have given him a better chance than Evander, because he had a lot more speed. Styles make fights.

It doesn't matter if you think Wlad was much better than Mike.

Mike being much smaller, actually gave him an advantage over the bigger guys.

Wlad fought great on Saturday, but he doesn't pose the same threat as Mike would have. Mike would have poured forward aggressively at speed, with his bob and weave movement, looking to get inside to go to the body. Sure, he could have got caught. But he could have started to empty Joshua's tank much quicker than Wlad did.

 

I don't see how.

Mike would have been more elusive and harder to hit. And it makes no difference here that Evander beat Mike.

 

Mike Tyson has not the style to beat Anthony Joshua , his style would be a disadvantage against him.

Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitschko, Riddick Bowe or Muhammad Ali are better opponents for him, this would make sense
to discuss.

Apart from Ali, he was faster than they were and harder to hit.

His bob and weave style was perfect for getting inside the guards of bigger fighters.

Joshua is huge, but he has stamina issues and we know that Mike had the power to hurt him.

Tyson had a very, very short peak, but that version of Iron Mike is Hell on Earth for AJ. Joshua is programmed to deal with punches launched at eyeline from men of similar size and reach at a set range which he dictates. Tyson's bobbing and weaving style would close that range and at his very best he was fast and elusive. In fact, very elusive while he had the athleticism to deliver the Cus D'Amato movement drilled into him from a very young age, so much so, he didn't need to think to dodge incoming fire. It was pure muscle-memory.

Once he'd got close he would be able to throw punches from below AJ's eyeline and many of them simply would not have been seen coming, turning AJ's size from an advantage into a disadvantage. And, of course, it's a given Tyson had the power to stop Joshua. He also had a great chin when at his athletic best.

Outside Mike's peak 'window' AJ stops him. He would have knocked out the Tyson who fought Lewis, for example.

 

Anthony Joshua only waits for his opponents to come inside to pick them apart , the gameplan Wladimir had
was the best way to beat Anthony Joshua , Wladimir avoided to go inside against him , he threw power punches
from mid-range and tried to outbox him from the outside.

Mike Tyson can't box from the outside against AJ , so either AJ would try to keep him at the distance , which
he is more than capable of or he would brawl with Mike Tyson and i don't think that Tyson would have a chance
in this scenario.

Anthony Joshua has good combination punching and Mike Tyson is vulnerable with an uppercut when he tries
to get inside against him , AJ has great inside fighting skills for a big man and is probably more powerful,
also he showed a good chin against Wlad.

 

I think it goes both way, people over rate Tyson but they also underrate him. For all his brute force, Tyson had a set of skills on him. he had a great variety of punches and explosive combinations but his foot work and movement get underrated. Tyson had a decent defence with his peek a boo style, slipping then landing that left hook.

I'm not really comparing Bruno with Joshua but I felt a bit of deja vu when AJ was on the ropes waiting to get knocked out. If a prime Tyson had him like that he would have been destroyed. I can just see Tyson slipping AJ and landing that left hook. maybe down the road when AJ looks more solid I'd agree he might beat Tyson, but I saw a few too many faults against Wlad, who was very close to beating AJ.

Wlad may have beaten Tyson but its not like he was invulnerable himself, especially against explosive punchers that put pressure on but thats a different story. Wlad has proved he is great by giving this young lion a lifes edge fight at age 41. I think Wlad was great, a lot of admiration for that man right now.
