You must have forgotten about all of the BS excuses:

    "I'm not a middleweight."

    "My body is not ready."

How many people are there in the WBC or anyway? Or does every sanctioning fee just go directly to Sulaiman? 'Cause if the WBC is just like one or two guys sitting in an office somewhere in Mexico it loses a lot of credibility for me. It would explain a lot, like in a "Oh, I just have to bribe these two guys and they'll make my guy champ/let me do anything I want?" kind of way.

I kind of get that feeling with the WBO too. Aren't 6 or 7 of the WBO champs promoted by Top Rank? That ****'s suspicious.

I have no idea. But pretty sure it's more as 3 guys sitting behind some desk in a sweaty mexican town, smoking sigars and counting cash out of brown enveloppes, given to them by the new entries in their top15. ;)

How does it work if he wins now? Will he be the Chavezweight, Light and Super Chavezweight king as well?

Do we get to hear "155, 164.5, 170 or 172, take your pick GGG! I don't mess around" ?

Canola will probably demand a rehydration clause that requires GGG to come in no more than 160.25 pounds on fight night.

Smart move not to pay the sanctioning fees.

The WBC middleweight belt means nothing the way WBC handing them out

This post was not aimed at you @shadow111 at all, I did not see you defending the WBC.

The point is still that some Canelo fans were defending the WBC regarding the Cinco de Mayo belt, and now they are (rightly) condemning the "greedy" organization. Regardless of whether the WBC wanted a fee for their Cinco de Mayo belt, the motive is clear - to try to get money from Canelo either now or later on. "Hanging on the coat-tails" as you rightly put it.

The 15 day deadline was short, but you must remember that Sulaiman had already promised K2 that they would have an immediate shot at the winner:

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has mandated that next month's winner, between Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs) and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32KOs), must face Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs) next.

The WBC had previously ordered the Golovkin-Lemieux, Cotto-Canelo winners to face each other.

Unless the parties come to some agreement, the WBC will not allow the Cotto-Canelo winner to bypass a mandatory defense against Golovkin.

The negotiations will be ordered a few weeks after next month's fight and Sulaiman anticipates the bout happening in "March or April" but the likely date, if it happens, would be in May on the lucrative Cinco De Mayo weekend.

"The winner of Cotto-Canelo must fight Golovkin," Sulaiman said. "Canelo and Cotto are at an elite level in boxing, and Golovkin has been demonstrating that he belongs there too. This would be one of the biggest fights in history. Golovkin has demonstrated exactly why he is at the level of being considered one of the two best fighters [pound-for-pound] in boxing."

GBP convinced the WBC to give them a voluntary first, contrary to what they had promised K2, in exchange for the mandatory being enforced straight after. The WBC made fools of themselves, sure, but they absolutely did not do so to help Golovkin.

Look at it from Golovkin's view. First Cotto stalls for as long as possible. Then, when the mandatory is enforced, Cotto wants to fight Canelo instead so negotiates a step-aside fee to put it off by one fight. Canelo beats Cotto, and then gets a voluntary. So effectively GGG's step-aside fee was used for two voluntaries, not one as was the plan. That's hardly favourable treatment.

You argue that the 15 day period is short. Maybe it is for a fight of that magnitude. But it's still there, point-blank, in the WBC rules. Canelo could have asked for an extension if he was serious about making the fight. Instead, we got "I'm not a MW", "My body is not ready", etc.

Lastly, are the WBC's belts valuable or not? Because now you are saying they aren't, whereas awhile ago you told me:

I'm sure it's already been said a hundred times in this thread, but he knows golovkin wants all the belts so he's effectively ruling himself out of a fight by saying golovkin would have to drop one if he wants the fight, he knows that will never happen. Absolutely outrageous thing to say, completely baffling.

Canelos non stop ducking of golovkin is an absolute disgrace.

WBC gave plenty of time to Canelo, they gave him months!!

We are not stupid and we can count, Canelo had since end of Nov to make this fight. He failed, then he had all summer to make it without involvement of WBC, he didn't want it and decided to fight Liam Smith.

Canelo would make a good politician, he thinks the people are stupid.

I don't think it would be a deal-breaker, the fight could go on with Golovkin retains the WBC regardless of the fight result.

Similar to Lebedev hanging on to the WBA cruiserweight despite losing to Gassiev.
