To be fair, de la hoya would be helping lay the foundations for this wall as we speak if the dollar was right

Trump has said some questionable stuff, but honestly the wall isn't even close to being near his most egregious statement or idea. The wall isn't even that bad.

You mean the Federal Government wants to secure its borders and maintain the safety of it's people? Wow what a novel concept. You know the main responsibility of the government is to defend their lands from foreign invaders and keep it's citizens safe from foreign or domestic threat.

My god the horror of a politician thinking of these things.

I wasn't even getting into the policy of the wall just discussing the principle of the Federal Government considering doing something that is directly related to the primary responsibility of the damn government itself.

Of all the **** we pay for why is national security, protecting your border from foreign invaders something shouldn't be discussed. Some of the discretionary spending in this country is bizarre. One, we have spent millions on giving dolphins and whales cocaine to see if they become more promiscuous after ingesting the intoxicant. Second, we have spent millions developing a televised cricket league in Afghanistan. Do you know how many Afghan households have TV's? About 1 percent of them do. After you discover where some of the discretionary spending goes the wall (defending your lands from foreign invasion) doesn't seem as bizarre.

I'm not a fan of the wall, I think it's a bit of a vanity project.

But honestly, why is there so much rage about the existence of national borders?

Who are you worried about invading us? Canadians or Mexicans? Net immigration between the U.S. and Mexico is negative. No so-called terrorist has entered the U.S. through the Mexican border. This "wall" nonsense is just something Trump threw out there and it surprisingly stuck. You see that the Republicans in congress aren't too anxious to fund this "wall".

DLH is American, he was born in LA. He's not a real Mexican.

Exactly I'm all for the discussions of practicality when it comes to wall. Is it worth it? Is it necessary? Will it make that much of a difference? Do we really want to use eminent domain on perhaps hundreds of citizens?

But people have raged on principle. I mean WTF? Rage over the existence of International borders like you say? Seems a little odd to me.

At least you seem to be one of the reasonable ones who don't support the wall. You don't see the utility of the wall. But it's those people who rage out of principle that are ridiculous. As if securing the border wasn't a responsibility of the government.

If a "wall" was to be built, it should be built along the Canadian border. There are incidents of people trying to enter our country from Canada to do harm to us but no one talks about a "wall" along the Canadian border. This wall along the Mexican border is a dog whistle to people who don't want more "brown" people entering this country. Like most things, Trump didn't think this "wall" thing through. It sounded and felt good so he threw it out there.

I'll have to research more about the Canadian border.

There are also a helluva lot more Muslims in Canada than in Mexico. My father-in-law used to joke that he believed that Bin Laden was hiding out in the suburbs of Toronto.

National borders should be enforced and protected. However, in this case, this "wall" is an appeal to people who want America to be like it was in the 50's when people of color were in the definite minority. This "wall" is a dog whistle for keeping brown people out of this country.
