Yes he would ! Carnera would have had his hands full with Gonzalez!

I understand that, but if Bowe was some fighter from the 1930s, mrkoolkevin et al would definitely hold this up as a weakness.

If you imagine Bowe with shitty 1930 production, with only his high profile fights, it will looks like most of his punches aren't very effective in hurting his opponents.

That's funny because Dempsey, from even earlier films looks a real man killer! So does Langford from as far back as 1910!lol

    Not really.

A lot of the supporters of modern superheavyweights have tried to bring this charge (they didn't make effective use of their size) against the superheavyweights of the past.

Erroneously in the case of Willard and Carnera, and with some justification on the case of Buddy Baer.

I am afraid that if you use that argument, then Bowe is going to be the first casualty.

That's preposterous. Nobody decent had their hands full with Gonzalez.

Don't you think Bowe would have had his hands full with a great many of Carneras opponents?

I do think Bowe would struggle with Primo schedule of 17 fights in 13 towns within just 6 months. Especially Since Bowe declined after so few competitive fights.

Some people actually picked Carnera over Bowe?? ?thats my post...not shocking though! :scared1

what i love about boxing admittedly is the thought of some things coming true...kind of like a bad B horror movie you are watching but out of the possibility of real life.

Anyone see Killer Klowns from outer space? :icon_domokun:

Renaldo Snipes did I'd give him a good shot against Carnera too, with that right hand and I think Bowe beats all of the opponents of Carnera ,cuffs on or off.
Greg Page, who Gonzalez beat had just beaten Witherspoon.

Snipes was decent in 1981, after that he drew with Scott Frank then he dropped off some each year after that and he fought Gonzalez in what? 1993 some 12 years after 1981.

I don't think Bowe could have managed 17 fights in 13 towns within six months without announcing his retirement half way through it.

Bowe was a LAZY hwt who had a very short prime. Looked good in a few bouts but he never rose to his potential. If the guy was motivated I think we all would think of him as an excellent fighter. His lack of consistent motivation is why we are talking about a bout vs Carnera. Certainly I could see Carnera besting Bowe on a given night.

Apparently Carnera was robbed on points against Stanly Poreda during that 1932 run. The ref was banned "until he can learn how to judge a fight" so was that one fight that was fixed against Primo?
