As once maybe lemonade, possibly semolina lightheavy reigned. Carpentier bacon sandwich maybe, once was top 30 possibly cheese. Sausages.
You can rank Tunney where you like ,just don't try to include Carpentier and Loughran as heavyweights that he beat because they weren't! Tunney was at181lbs a heavyweight when he last fought Greb ,who at 167.5lbs,was definitely not! Ive corrected you on a Schmeling fight that never happened, and weights that were wrong you acknowledged neither. You just cannot be wrong and will perform any gyrations and verbal gymnastics to avoid admitting you are. It really doesn't matter anyone reading this can plainly see that ,not only are you wrong ,you have no idea what you are talking about. Now I 've spent far too much time on your nonsense I'd like to get back to the thread.
I find it very interesting that you have moved Wlad into your Top-10, in place of Marciano; a Boxer, whose legacy, for the largest part, is built upon a record of sheer guts and indomitable will, during an undefeated career. I get that Wlad finally showed us a bit of pluck, in a great fight but, I think there must be more to your re-evaluation, surely?
A good performance by Wlad. But hardy worthy of an advancement in the ATG rankings.A case may have been made had he beaten Joshua or lost a disputed decision. Heart and will to win, show me one TOP 10 ATG who does not have those intangibles. They are to be expected.
I do separate era lists. I find it a lot easier judging fighters after 1969 Because of coloured television. Fighters look worse in black and white. So this is my 1970-2010 list 1.Holyfield 2.Tyson 3.Ali 4.Holmes 5.Foreman 6.Bowe 7.Lewis 8.Frazier 9.Norton 10.Douglas 11.Wlad 12.Vitali I base a lot on peak performance levels. Hence buster sneaking in at 10. I also make a great case for Holyfield being GOAT. Him, Tyson and Ali are just amazing fighters who beat everyone at there peak
I don't feel like reading the thread but when Jones fought Ruiz the cruiser weight limit was 190. Technically there was no minimum weight; Charley Burley fought a heavyweight at 150ish. But in actuality you'd have a hard time getting such a fight sanctioned today. I think the modern unified rules say you have to be above the lower weight class to compete so 200 plus in 2017. Although I'm sure enough money could change some minds...
Glad they did the poll. I'd rather either each respondent had been able to submit their own top 20 (rather than rank 20 specified heavyweights), or alternately that they had been asked to rank 20 from a list of 30+ heavyweights. A 32-list might have given them a chance to vote e.g. Jackson, McVey, Jeanette, Langford, Wills, J Sharkey, Schmeling, Baer, Charles, Walcott, Patterson or Norton, had they wished. The top-15 names in the Overall Rankings are my top-15, albeit not necessarily in that order.
