Carpentier scaled half a pound inside the lhvy limit for this fight for the French Heavyweight title.

Carp is another past great whose skills become diminished due to film quality. Here the quality is excellent and the feints, jabs, inside fighting and a Herculean right uppercut left hook that ends the bout. Note how the opponent is tucking his chin behind his left shoulder so Carp can't land his potent right cross. Carp finds the answer with that uppercut.

Random aside: When did the practice of dragging your knocked out opponent across the ring to his stool fall out of favor? I'd be in favor of bringing that back.

Sometimes that could be dangerous, thats why doc's rush in the ring, today. What got me was the guys corner, Carp had to take care of their fighter. They were late in getting in the ring

Carpentier said he was cautious in this fight because he had suffered hand injuries in training and didnt want to damage them by hitting Nilles head. You can see he tries the uppercut a little before he gets home with the finisher.
Carpentier said the French press had written him off after the Siki debacle saying he was finished, and he had a point to prove.
