Golovkin haters wanted this fight more than Golovkin fanboys, haha! Golovkin will be fighting his second ever, and consecutive I might add, elite opponent. That should have been all anybody wanted.

Surly a fighter who fights nobody and has not proven himself shouldn't beat someone like canelo?

He has been a ranked MW titleholder for many years.

He has been both the fan and betting favorite to defeat Canelo for many years.

...not sure what you're talking about...?

I felt the same way -- the GGG hatesquad was trying to find every reason why the fight vs. Canelo should never happen. It was grotesque.

Any true boxing fan wants to see the fight happen, I sure do. Still mulling over who I'll pick when the time comes.

I agree with what you said, but in fairness there were also a few Golovkin haters who didn't want him to get the Canelo fight. Why yesterday, one of the notorious GGG haters started a thread hoping that Canelo didn't fight GGG until GGG was very old.

Expect them to be happy and continue to act confident that Triple G will win. They'll be happy all the way until Sept 16, when they're whole world is about to come crashing down. We've already seen a number of Triple G fans already worried about the judges scoring it for Canelo. If Canelo wins by decision, you can be sure to hear the "DLH paid off the judges" "Triple G was robbed" on Sept 17th. I can see it being a very controversial decision, as I can't see Triple G actually stopping Canelo. That guard is just too tight for Triple G to get through and the speed and technique on Canelo's punches is unlike anything Triple G has seen. Like Floyd said Triple G is straight up and down. He'll try to walk down Canelo and trap him into a corner. In center ring, he's not going to be able to find Canelo and Canelo can make him look bad by stepping back and using Triple G's aggression against him. Triple G's best chance is to try to walk him down and get Canelo into a corner. Otherwise Triple G is a bigger target for Canelo than Canelo is for Triple G and similarly to Chavez (to a lesser extent obviously) Triple G will have to hunch over to try and land on Canelo. I don't see how Triple G is going to land body shots on Canelo, while Canelo is very capable of landing body shots on Triple G. I'm expecting a very good fight though, Triple G is clearly Canelo's toughest test yet and the biggest puncher he's ever fought, but Canelo has a clear speed and technique advantage. I’m not one of these people guaranteeing a Canelo victory or something. This is boxing, anything can happen in a fight like this. Maybe Triple G catches Canelo, but I just don’t see Canelo allowing that to happen. Canelo will be much more elusive than we saw vs Chavez. I also think that Canelo’s power is underrated and I think given his age and youth he has a slighty better chin than Triple G. If it turns into a slug fest, Triple G’s face is gonna mark up quicker and I’m not convinced that Triple G is going to tighten up that guard, I expect Canelo’s counter punching to be a major factor.

This is the most accurate prediction I've seen thus far. It's true. Nothing wrong with Canelo losing to the better man as long as he puts up a great fight. Golovkin is on the unfortunate end of the deal if he wins or loses. If he loses what you said will definitely happen because he is not very well known to the crowd that matters-WOMEN!!!

All these guys man crushing Golovkin don't buy his fights. I vouch for Canelo's ability to get vaginas hot out in West, young and old, and they are his fans and they buy his fights and merchandise. Win or lose Canelo wins. He loss no fans after Floyd, but Pacquiao literally loss all of his bandwagon fans that hopped over to GGG,who are all waiting to hop over to Lomachenko if this fight goes sour.

Yes I will still be very happy this fight happens even if Canelo knocks the living daylights out of GGG. The sad thing is the Golovkin haters won't have the same attitude when their man loses, instead they will come up with creative excuses such as:

"Canelo was never a real middleweight"
"Canelo should have fought in Mexico city"
    "Canelo was robbed"
"Canelo should have insisted on a catchweight, he's the A side"
"Canelo wasn't in his best condition after so many tough fights"

I agree with your main points.

Canelo indeed has less to lose. He will have more chances if he loses. In fact, he can rematch GGG when he feels ready and get his revenge anyway, if he wants to.

And GGG's legacy very much hinges on the Canelo fight.

I just think you used a bit of hyperbole right there :)

The part I see slightly differently is that even if GGG loses, especially if it's a great exciting fight, he will be remembered in history as an exciting KO artist who was the man at MW for a while. I think he would be better remembered than Ottke.

But I get your main point, it's a good one.

I doubt canelo would rematch Golovkin if he gets knocked out

shockmaster has already started attacking canelo as a bum now. no matter who golovkin fights, the guy will suddenly become a bum. if he fights ward now, they will say he drug him back down. kovalev finished him, etc.
