I believe Don King is a much bigger scumbag than Goossen was. King is a psychopath who took advantage of boxers who were not very intelligent, he never cared about people, just used them. Let's not forget he killed two people. If you listen to what Tyson said about him it is clear that King is a psychopath. I don't think that Goossen or any other promoter is comparable to him

Mayweather, Mikey Garcia and Donaire all signed contracts with Arum that they later wanted to get out for one reason or another. Situations change. You can call Ward dumb if you want, but he is probably worth more than you are, or you can call him unethical without knowing the specifics of his situation. At any rate, he wasn't the first fighter to sue to get out a contract and he won't be the last.

I agree, just trying to make a point that boxing promoters have a reputation of not being choir boys with some being worse than others. In disputes between fighters and their promoters, I initially tend to take the side of the fighter.

yes one reason or another, no idea how it turned out for them but ward lost 3 times in court because he was in the wrong. You don't sign a contract unless you aim to honour it.

money has no bearing on character or intelligence that's a dumb argument in itself, their are probably people who are homeless out their who are smarter than me you and ward combined, so iv no idea what that has to do with anything. Their are also mentally disabled people who have more money than both of us combined, does that mean anything?

fact of the matter is from what we know ward was either dumb for signing such a terrible contract or else he's a dubious character. Signing a contract and then trying to break it is unethical, contracts are signed in good faith and you can't willi nilli decided you don't like it anymore and it no longer applies, if everyone had that attitude the world would be chaos and business would be impossible, it is unethical.

he is the first fight i remember to lose 3 times in court, boxing is a merky business and promoters can be dodgy but in this situation ward was in the wrong

Goossen was known for being a stand up guy. Many of his fighters and people involved in the game who knew him will tell you the same.

I did a quick google search on this subject and saw that Ward sued under the Ali act. I also saw that Goosen took money that was supposed to go to some people in Ward's camp. The Ali act had nothing to do with Goosen taking money that he wasn't entitled to so the fact that Ward lost his law suits doesn't mean that Goosen didn't cheat him. Like I said before, you don't know the specifics of the situation but because you don't like Ward, he is automatically wrong. The courts didn't find that Ward was not wronged, it found he couldn't avoid the contract under the Ali act.

the ali act is when a promoter is acting as a manager too and doesn't have the boxers best interests at heart, ward said that goosen took money that should have gone to he's camp that didn't eg breaking the ali act. He was found not guilty 3 times.

if goosen did anything wrong he would have been found guilty, he didn't.

he couldn't avoid the contract under the ali act? well you are basically insinuating that the contract was somehow robbing ward but that it wasn't covered under the ali act, i guess you are of the opinion that ward is stupid for signing a contract which legally allowed him to be screwed rather than him being a dubious character

nothing wrong with admitting a boxer might be as thick as pig ****, there are tons of them around.

Ward wants a change of venue for the face off. He wants it in Oakland.

You should ask yourself if it's wise for a boxer to attack a civilian. He's a professional athlete and public figure. He wouldn't be the first or last athlete to hear negative comments from a fan.

I kind of went off on a tangent which really wasn't necessary. Ward didn't do anything illegal. He had a contractual dispute and went to court to settle it. He lost in court and obviously met his legal obligations since he is not currently being sued or incarcerated. There was nothing unethical or immoral about his actions in my eyes. I suspect that if other fighters were switched with Ward, you would feel the same.

I'm a fan of Ward...frankly I like Kovalev too...think he's a great fighter. If this is true...disappointing move by Ward...You need to be a pro and do your job with all the promotional stuff...it's part of it.

first of all he lost 3 times in court, he acted unethically trying to get out of a legally binding contract, thye are the premises which the business world runs on, if everyone acted like that the world would be a complete mess.

the reason he got out of the contract (or met he's legal obligations) as you put it, is that goosen died of cancer and he's estate couldn't be bothered continuing to go through the courts with ward so they were paid off.

breaking a legally binding contract is unethical , anyone who does business will tell you that. Its just the way things are and the way they actually need to be for society to function. Yes i would feel the same way, i thought mikey garcia was an idiot trying to get out of a legal contract with arum and sitting on the shelf for 2 years. And i don't like arum nor is he dying of cancer.
