Ward-Kovalev II, or Canelo-Golovkin, which fight is more significant?

That's it. I think Golovkin will school Canelo, but I'm not entirely sure that Kovalev beats Ward convincingly enough to win a decision.

That said, Canelo/Golovkin will be a much more fun fight to watch than Kovalev/Ward. We all know Ward is gonna stink out the joint again, whereas Canelo is an action fighter that's always good to watch. I think Alvarez will be competitive up to the 5-6th and then fade down the stretch.

 

OP maybe should have said: "which fight will be BETTER".

Answer: Canelo / GGG.

 

Interesting indeed, because if Canelo is in the fray and looking decent for the first 6, then Golovkin better look spectacular for the rest of the fight or stop him. Call me paranoid, but there's a theory that Alvarez gets favourable judging out there ...

Combination of GGG looking less unstoppable against Brook and Jacobs, Canelo looking good at the higher weight, and realising that Canelo does think he will win - he's clearly very confident.

 

Well, if there's a bad decision we'll all see it. No good worrying about something that won't necessarily happen IMO.

 

I don't think Canelo ever was easy work for anybody. I do think that given his form and on-paper advantages, that Golovkin should win. Call me crazy, but I actually think Jacobs would have an easier time against Canelo given his workrate.

 

I see your point, Jacobs has the stylistic advantage against both Golovkin and Canelo I think. Just need to see whether he's actually at the level shown in his last fight, or was it an inspired performance that he can't repeat?

I'd love to see Jacobs fight someone good in his next fight.

 

Actually, I'm changing my vote from "don't know" to Canelo/Golovkin.

3 straps on the line, plus some guys like Shadow111 argue the lineal 160 title is on the line as well. Middleweight has always been "the" division in boxing, and in terms of public interest, Canelo alone has more fans than Kova and Ward put together.

A close, entertaining bout would do more for boxing than watching Kovalev gas and Ward hug him all the way. I can almost put my wanger on a chopping block that Canelo/GGG is going to be a classic. Ward/Kova, not so much.

 

Don't know why you'd think that Kova has respect but not too many fans, Ward has basically just haters where as Alvarez is the most popular fighter in boxing, and GGG has the huggers. It was easy to see who'd get more votes, which is actually the better fight is more debatable and not exactly clear cut.

 

You know when everyone thinks a fight is gonna be close when the robbery seed is being scattered pre-fight to yield the excuse crop should it be needed. GG's ungodly power should see to that though, shouldn't it? Like Kovalev when he fought Ward.

Yes, Canelo has got some smelly decisions, but let's see if the fight goes 12 rounds in the firsts place and then, if so, if the judging is fair. Then we can talk 'robbery'. Hinting at that now smacks of nervousness. And it's the tensions which lie behind Canelo vs GG - who unlike Ward vs Kov we've yet to see box each other - which made me vote for them. Bring it on!
