I was watching Colin Cowherd yesterday, And he thinks that Larry Holmes was the most boring hw champion ever, And also considers him as nothing but a "Jab Artist"... Would you agree?

Cowherd doesn't know sh8t about boxing... but people and press did consider Holmes boring and underwhelming during his reign. He was the hangover after the Ali allnighter. Since then, popular perception has been corrected and most astute folks realize his greatness.

Big-time boring. Way too many hopeless --absolutely hopeless- title challengers. Guys that didn't even have a wild, one-in-a-million puncher's chance, were given shots. Terrible era, in my opinion. Larry was a great fighter in terms of ability, but I think he could have done much more with his reign.

No...not if you know or understand the technical skills alot of those 80's guys were using.Holmes competed in a era of very limited punchers but VERY technical astute boxers who didnt get media coverage AFTER Ali left the game.

i was too young to study these guys in the day and was not a combat enthusiast until the late 80's as far as boxing ...i could see why many boxing fans without internet and media coverage we have today could perceive this era as boring back then and well maybe it was without build up to alot of fights.I think boxing in a way suffered bc of ignorant media not given credit to actual skill sets if Ali was not in the picture.

i even remember my father calling Cooney a bum who couldnt take a punch back in 81/82?? these were the times...how wrong they were even if you had boxing experiance( my father was undefeatted as an amatuer of about 25 fights). just showing anyone could be wrong and often experianced fighters or ones who fought are..when you look closer these guys could fight and found that oout in the 90's with limited VHS tapes.

The 80's landscape actually changed technical fighting for HW's and Holmes was the beginning of that through Ali.

You just have to appreciate each era what they brought and see how each era continued to change styles and game plans to win fights. Today really thers little excuse with ALL the fights available to study why you wouldnt appreciate how hard these guys fought and were ridiculed for not being Ali...pretty silly at the end of the day.

Of note i also remember back in 1990 i said Foreman would claim a title ...my dad looked at me like i was crazy and said its impossible hes in his late 30's...how times have changed.....i was 16.

the 80's in the Holmes era has many value, you just have to actually watch the fights and ignore hype of who was popular ...etc,

During his reign he was considered totally boring and his era as weak. He has received proper recognition is more recent years. But he was considered a bridge from Ali to Tyson.
He had many good fights Cooney, Norton, shavers were three standouts imo.

I remember when I first got into boxing back in 1983, I was a big Holmes fan. Everyone that I knew didn't like him, didn't even think he was a great boxer back then. Also keep in mind his era was followed by Mike Tyson, and Tyson was electrifying compared to Holmes.

And that proves the point of how out of touch boxing fans actually are...they never see or appreciate CURRENT boxers ...they have a foolish perception of some made up unrealistic way of looking at skills. As soon as tyson lost he became overatted and then the 90's came and ppl claimed he was overatted..really stupid thinking...lol they either condemn thier OWN sport during or after they are past their best...SMH

Very true, Lennox Lewis was in a similar position during his reign. Now we are in a transitional stage in the division where we don't have a dominant champion. Everyone looks vulnerable, hopefully in the next couple years we will get the fights so someone will emerge.

No. It followed the golden 70s area and that was the issue for Larry.
He had good fights with Norton, Shavers, cooney, berbick, snipes, witherspoon and spinks.

Hoping so. I believe heavy weight boxing is moving in to a new era now. The klitschko reign is finished and at last we're seeing the potential of the next generation.
As for the holmes era. I watched the holmes story from Norton onwards. I found him a mostly dominant champ whilst the other belt holders came and went. He could be seen as slightly boring because he was so dominant. The other guys never had a chance so it seemed to easy for Larry. Which is a sign of a great champ in some ways. Plus he followed ali, so really holmes never stood a chance of looking exciting. But now years later I believe people can see his talent s and skills for what they were.

Holmes didn't get recognition for his achievements until he showed
his more vulnerable side after his Tyson beating then winning
against Mercer and going distance with Holyfield and fighting
well long time after past prime. Same like Foreman.
Holmes sullen attitude during his career didn't help.

In most title defenses. Bouts with Norton, Shavers, Weaker Witherspoon, Williams, Cooney were not one-sided.
The most dominant and boring champ is Wlad by a mile.
