Probably not as exaggerated as Bowes power.

Well, at first Carnera was ridiculed in this thread by people (including you) as a boxer, period.
Now it seems like the focal point has shifted to an actual comparison between the two. That's progress.

The training clips were significant when people describe him as an unathletic, uncoordinated, and clumsy.
All complete hogwash once you see him train.
But I also mentioned that he looked great in the fight films too, so the proper grounds are covered.

Where is Bowe's power exaggerated? In any case, the bottom line is that Bowe hits very hard and had the skills and technique to delivery that power effectively in the form of sharp, flush punches. Primo not so much. There's a reason that Primo mostly seemed pretty harmless against his top opponents (and some of his non-top opponents too).

Bottom line, is the guy who just drastically misrepresented a lineal HW champion (and keeps trying to do it) shouldn't be the one drawing the bottom line.

Pretty much every fighter of the era had some sort of links to organised crime.

Max Baer and Jimmy Braddock were both accused of having participated in fixed fights.

Would you describe Riddick Bowe's defence as "marvelous"?

Joe Louis ,who actually shared a ring with him said, he pushed his jab and that he had no power.
    Want to argue with him?

Don't think I'd call any heavyweight's defense "marvelous," but then again, I'm not Benny Leonard.

Primo had one leg in that fight!

If my memory serves, the knockdowns only happened in 3 of the 11 rounds and that Primo (hobbling around with a broken ankle) outboxed Baer in all of the rounds that he was not knocked down in.

Did any of Braddock's opponents have their purses withheld, their licences withdrawn?

Carnera had the better defenses, and fought tougher punchers. Scored twice as many knockouts over Bowe, and fought tons of talented fighters from his era.

By the way, you never really gave me your analysis of any of the video clips I put together to highlight some of Carnera's limitations. Did you watch them? Any thoughts? Any technical breakdown would be greatly appreciated!

Braddock himself had his purse withheld!

1931-11-10 : Maxie Rosenbloom 180 lbs fought without result Jim Braddock 178½ lbs by NC in round 2 of 10
    • Location: Auditorium, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
    • Referee: George Barton
"A scheduled 10 round bout between light heavyweight champion Maxie Rosenbloom and Jimmy Braddock, New York, was stopped in the 2nd round tonight and declared No Contest after a sorry exhibition by the pair. Referee George Barton ordered them out of the ring after several warnings. Members of the state boxing commisssion supported Barton's action, suspended both fighters and ordered an investigation of the bout and the arrangements for it, with a hearing set for tomorrow." -Associated Press

    • The following day, the Minnesota State Boxing Commission deemed since neither fighter was showing a willingness to punch, the purse of $2191.00 would be withheld with $350.00 distributed to each fighter for training and traveling expenses only. The balance of $1491.00 would be shared by the Community Fund chests of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Rosenbloom originally was to receive $1,195.00 and Braddock $996.00.
    • In return for pledges not to bring legal action to recover the full purse, the Commission agreed not to suspend the fighters or ask for their suspension in other states affiliated with the National Boxing Association.
    • Both fighters and managers denied that the lack of spirit shown by the fighters was due to pre-arrangement.
    • The Commission rejected an offer by the fighters to meet again in an act of good faith. The Commission stated, "One opportunity to fight is enough."
    Post fight comment

    • "Minnesota boxing fans do not intend to be imposed upon." - Gil Carmichael, chairman of the state boxing commission, serving notice to other fighters.
