I agree with everything Don Turner says. The short HW he talks about was David Tua This content is protected
Nice find 3:40 - Damn, he said he never used the pads. He said the pads didn't come till 1965. Which is wrong because Marciano is pictured doing pad work with Goldman. But perhaps that's when it became popularized. I've always thought there was something about pad work that feels unnatural compared to fighting. But it's good for getting you used to movements and combinations. By the way this interview is gold. Thank you for posting it.
Turner was 7-9-1 as a pro LtHvy, but as was mentioned in the interview: "Don Turner has been in boxing for more than 50 years, he was elected Trainer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America in 1996. He has trained more than 20 world champions, the most famous being Evander Holyfield with Turner in his corner for his two wins over Mike Tyson, as well as Larry Holmes, Aaron Pryor, Mike McCallum, Henry Akinwande, Christophe Tiozzo and many others. Turner also worked with heavyweight contender Michael Grant. Turner currently trains cruiserweight prospect Constantin Bejenaru."
No way he trains Bejenaru? He seemed like an interesting prospect, but time has passed and he hasn't been very active. He's getting older, and he's gone the distance too many times I think. Hopefully they can turn him into a success, because I find his style entertaining.
Got to speak to Don, Mcgirt and Kovalev at the weight in for the Caparello fight. All real kool guys. Guy conducting this interview is a bit of an idiot
Wat did he say...was it hes good as long as u dont fight back?...I like G but man Pirog made that **** look pretty easy. I know that was a while back already but still...
Elie Seckbach is a complete fool. He's a slimy, low life scumbag who doesn't know his azz from his elbow. I wonder if he belongs to ESB...?
Exactly. Always sticking his nose in where it doesn't belong and saying stupid ****. I think Roach responded by calling him "That Jew kid". Not sure if that was before or after the "racist" remark.
