Better All-Around Fighter: Primo Carnera or Riddick Bowe?

Surely to god we can make some allowance for his performance in the Leroy Haynes fights?

 

So it's a conspiracy ? Every major columnist of the past eighty years ?

 

Here's how Bowe was better.

He was a much better puncher.
He had a much more effective jab although that was Primo's best offensive weapon.
He was a much better combination puncher.
He was a much better body puncher.
He defeated much better opposition.
He took a better punch although again Primo is under rated in this category.

That's for starters ...

 

None of this necessarily makes him better.

For example having a better jab is not much help, if you don't see it to impose range on your opponents.

The elephant in the room here is that Carnera made effective use of his height reach advantage, and Bowe simply didn’t.

Defeated much better opposition?

You basically mean that he defeated Holyfield.

Once we start lining up the second, third, and fourth best people they beat, Carnera takes it on depth quite handily.

 

At least he understood in principle that this was optimum style for him.
