He became permanent based in the United States in mid-1932, and started toppling legitimate contenders in the latter half of the year.

This is also when Abe Attell became his trainer and modified his style to make him more of an outfitter.

He probably peaked in 1933 when he won the title, and was on the slide by late 1935.

Well he was at least regarded as a legitimate contender.

Probably the best fighter that Carnera had fought since Walter Neusel.

Exactly the sort of fight where you might expect a declining fighter to come up short.

Not necessarily, especially in an era where short amateur careers were the norm.

No, Haynes only got his brief rating on the strength of beating Carnera.

Carnera was dispatched with little effort and in even less time.

 

If I recall, Haynes disappointed in the return, despite a second stoppage win.

 

One of the most obvious diagnostics of an agenda against a fighter, is attacking them based on fights where there are overwhelming mitigating circumstance.

If you you are using this fight as an argument against Carnera, then you probably don’t care a lot about the integrity of your argument.

 

Which of the fighters that Carnera fought between Neusel and Haynes, do you see as being better than Haynes?

 

Where is the better technique he was easily hit with right hands from Gains in1930
Caught repeatedly by clumsy right hand swings from Baer in1934 .
Hit at will by Louis in1935.
And hit easily with right hands by Haynes in1936 .
No change there!

A champion's prime would normally be taken as the point when they started knocking over world class opposition, at the earliest.

While they might theoretically be in their prime before this, it would have to be regarded as unproven.
