So you claim to be able to last a rd against Charles in a full on professional fight. What weight class did you compete in in the professionals and what was the highest rank you received by a governing body?
A tricky question. For me its Holmes. He was hit by the biggest punchers and recovered quickly. But there is far more than just having a good chin to stay upright. A fighter needs heart, mental toughness, and good conditioning. Second would be Marciano. He was hit quite a bit, but not by the biggest punchers in the world. When he was floored be got up quickly and didn't show any lingering effects. Last would be Foreman. While he starts out great, his stamina was a real problem. Lyle nearly stopped Foreman, and Jimmy Young would have if there was another round. The comeback 90's Foreman really didn't take too many hard shots, but he was rocked by Lakusta ( a trial horse type ) and Holyfield.
Foreman was up before a count could start and immediately resumed his chasing of Young he is on his toes for the rest of the round.. This content is protected
I wasnt a professional but i sparred with heavyweight professionals. I had a few amateur fights. I also did mma and full contact karate training. I weighed 220 and was never dropped let alone stopped. So yeah theres nothing crazy or ridiculous about me thinking i wouldnt fold from one hit in one round from a skinny former middleweight who didnt hit hard in his own weight class. Now use some reading comprehension. Nowhere in any of my posts did i claim id "win", "hang with" charles or even that he "couldnt" knock me out. That isnt taking anything away from him as a fighter. Freaking butterbean went the distance with holmes and he had no defense to speak of with 99% of his career being against 4 rounders. Shaq had zero professional experience and hung with oscar and mosley. Smith went the distance with tyson by literally hugging for 12 rounds. Is it really that insane for me to have an ounce of confidence thinking i could at the very least run or hold to survive a first round assault from an average puncher who weighed 30-40 less lbs than me? Now i have a question for you: do you think charles hit harder than briggs or morrison, yes or no?
I can't agree that they looked older than their years during their actual bouts against each other, I think it's the last time either man really looked great on film. I would say both looked to be significantly "declined" in their next matches. Marciano vs Cockell Charles vs Norkus Compare that to the Charles vs Marciano series. Huge drop off in both men's performances. Ah. I see. I guess that's the fault of the topic, Foreman and Holmes are roughly from the same era. Maricano predates them by two decades. When I gave my listing, I wasn't judging them so much on a P4P basis but how they displayed durability against their actual in ring opposition. I wasn't lining them up against each other's opponents as there's noway of really foretelling that. Oh absolutely. But here's my reasoning on why I more impressed with Marciano's durability in this regard. Foreman had 50 pounds on Evander in that fight. 50! Foreman gave a game effort but once Evander hurt him, he shelled up. Now that's a hard shell to crack. A powerful man with a 50 pound weight advantage, going into a compact guard, not reaching and refusing to show chin. He let Evander beat his eyes shut, lost on points, but by not taking risks, he didn't get caught with much he didn't see coming and braced himself for. Marciano against Moore, Charles, and Walcott, He was outweighed in all but one of them, and took big risks, because he wasn't fighting to go the distance, he was fighting to win, so he got caught with some tremendous counters in those fights, and had to keep fighting through it.
Marciano was heavier than Charles in their first fight. And a quarter pound heavier than Moore in their fight.
1.Foreman of 90's 2. Holmes 3. Marciano would be realistic and really the only way to rate them based on the fights they had....are you telling Marciano stands up to Cooney and morrison hooks....15 punch unanswered Holyfield Combo? foreman in the 70's was knocked down and wobbled by far less punchers who wouldnt even dent or make him Blink in the 90's.
Oh i agree those were great performances. I wasnt even saying they "looked" much older per se but that the pace and frequency of how often they fought meant their wear and tear was much higher than a similarly aged modern fighter (ward kovalev). Thats actually a pretty logical way to look at it. In that case rocky would be ahead of young foreman at least based on in ring performance. But doesnt that take awat from yor original point that timing and accuracy>>>raw brute power by focusing on the weight difference between foreman and holy?
Idk I never got hit by them and there isn't anyone who fought all three. I'd say Morrison's left hook is the hardest punch between the 3 of them by what I see. If Charles had that kind of power he probably would have been much greater. They all have the ability to knockout a boxingforum24 user in the first round.
Didn't Marciano get knocked down earlier in his career? We seem to only be thinking of the knockdowns on film. It's possible that if Holmes were in Rockys position, his Snipes knockdown wouldn't be on film. This is a good question. If I had to pick I would say: 1. Foreman 2. Rocky 3. Holmes Rocky never seemed to get hurt. He got hit hard, he got hit a lot, got knocked down with well timed short counters. But never seemed woozy, dazed, hurt. Also, he would sometimes get staggered by a big punch, but would instantly return a haymaker an retake control. He absorbed damage incredibly well. My intuition tells me Foreman had a better chin than him, but it's hard to say. Holmes had an incredible chin too.
