Peak for peak. How does Primo go vs one of the better contenders of the 70's?

This is between one over rated guy and one under rated guy.

Lyles best win? Proberbly a SD over Joe Bugner. He lost to jimmy Young and jerry Quarry. He was TKOd by Ali and Foreman in his prime. Ron did do well against the giant Jack OHalloran but then so did jack bodel and Joe bugner and a lot of other guys. Ron beat Shavers but so did Ron Stander.

Does Primo beat Bugner and Jerry Quarry? Or put it another way, are Bugner and Quarry better than Jack Sharkey?

Primo was outpointed a few times but he beat a lot of contenders like Lasky, Schaff, uzcudun, Neusel, laughran, santas, campolo, levinsky and Godfrey. He also beat poreda but the referee was banned for judging against Primo.

It was only really max Baer and Joe Louis who outclassed Primo with their punching power and I back both to knockout Lyle too seeing as Ali and Foreman did the same to him as well as others later in both men's careers.

Primo was a hard to beat super heavyweight. It would not surprise me if he beat Ron Lyle.

If you are the type of person to back Tyson Fury over Ron Lyle then you must also be the kind of person to back Primo. If you have faith and trust in the abilities of the best Superheavyweights then Primo is a part of this too. He would be a solid pick if this type of champion is your bag.

I'm going for a late round stoppage against primo. No agenda or bias against either man, just see lyle getting in the harder shots and primo been stopped after numerous kds.

Lyle stoppage for mine. His right hand would rarely miss and we know how much power he packed in it.

How I see it to. Primo s getting up just to be knocked down again. Lyle had foreman down a few times and George's chin was solid, just don't think primo stands up to the bombs coming his way.

Agreed, and i don't believe Primo has the sudden power to pull it out of the bag.

I think so, too. In the various Carnera videos that have been posted there is one constant: When Primo threw a right hand, however he threw it, he squared up by stepping forward with his right foot. That's virtually guarantees that you will literally walk into a right hand counter.

The underlined is illogical nonsense .
If a poster has faith and trust in the abilities of say Lewis and Wlad ,it doesn't follow that he will have the same faith and trust in those of Carnera I certainly haven't! And judging by the votes Bowe received neither does the vast majority of this forum!
Lasky was not a contender when Carnera beat him he had only had 15 fights against nobodies.
Uzcudun was not a contender ,he hadn't been ranked for 5 years!
Campolo was not a contender in either of their fights when he faced Carnera.
    Santa was never a contender.
Mentioning Schaaf who was a dead man walking is in singularly bad taste.
Yes, Bugner and Quarry both beat Carnera
Please stop with this ridiculous charade!

One thing to remember is Lyle was pretty easy to outbox. I could see Carnera boxing at distance and winning by decision. I could also see Lyle landing a bomb and taking Carnera out.

Pretty easy to outbox? Apart from Jimmy Young, a technician if a boring one,and Quarry who had 50 fights to Lyle's20 who outpointed Lyle?

    Don't read them then Rob.

I made this one to see where the forum believes Carnera falls with the 70's era of heavyweights. We've had nothing close to that. There was no point matching him with the Ali's, Frazier's or Foreman's as he'd be battered. Lyle for me is the perfect barometer for my inquisition.
