What is the general consensus surrounding the Canelo Vs Chavez Jr farce? Fix?

I saw only the first 5 rounds before I had to turn it off due to my suspicions of what I felt was a glorified sparring match that had been agreed upon by both parties behind closed doors.

I saw Canelo standing right in front of Chavez, yet jr wasn't willing to throw any punches with any conviction. This is the same Chavez that took Sergio Martinez to the brink of defeat throwing everything at him, yet here he was looking like he forgot how to throw a punch let alone put together any combination. Even if we can agree that he was weight drained, that doesn't excuse a fighter becoming a sitting duck unwilling to throw any meaningful.

Then later I saw that they had GGG entered the arena, in a WWE grand style heel entrance perfectly timed as soon as Canelo beckoned his name.

Both fighters and their promotions in reality deserve to be investigated for this farce, as hundreds of thousands boxing fans around the world would have forked out good money to watch these two frauds go to war only for them to put on a public workout.

They're both an embarrassment to their country and the sport of boxing.

My consensus is that I haven't missed anything by falling asleep during the buildup.
Not going to watch the "highlights" either.
Maybe it was a fix, but this isn't a big enough fight to care about it. Only thing it did was completely destroying what was left of Jr's reputation.

It wasn't a fix, it is just that Chavez was a walking corpse in there, I heard they want him as an extra zombie in the Walking Dead for next years season!!

What about Canelo's credibility in the fact that him and his team would pay off a weight drained opponent just to secure a big money fight with GGG?

That's it! this was a WWE preliminary to the GGG fight. It was a huge payday for Chavez, more than he could have ever really earned at this stage of his collapse, uh I mean career. I thought halfway through the fight Canelo was carrying him and by the end I was certain. As Lex Luthor said in Superman,,," promises were made, gifts exchanged"

Very suspicious fight. The way that Chavez would get Canelo on the ropes then inexplicably back off without taking any shots from Nelo. At one point he threw a triple jab at Canelo when he had him on the ropes and should have been going at him hard. WTF?

It was disgraceful and Jr disgraced his father's name. I'm sure when the reporters asked his father what he thought of his son's performance, he must have declared that he had no son.

If only it was a fix. Then Chavez would have an excuse for his performance.

I think it's a combination of being completely drained and sucking balls.

To think that I thought Cheeseburger Junior would have been a stiff test for Canelo  I dunno. Maybe it was fixed. Oe maybe Junior really is done for as a fighter. Back to the buffet for him :eatingburger

In my opinion a 100% FIX!!!!! Oscar would never risk Canelo in there with Chavez unless it was. Too much risk. Chavez made weight to save paying the penalty. He wasnt there to win he wasn't there to even try

Jr. was simply cashing out. He had no interest in winning, he simply wanted to get the money and go home. That's not a fix, its simply someone who has zero ambition and is just lazy, entitled douche who didn't come to win.

BTW For anyone wondering how far Eubank Jr will go and how he will end, look at Chavez's "career". When you entire childhood you were pampered and not brought up with ambition and success in mind you turn out to be a loudmouth and loser like these two clowns.

I see a lot of posters here who obviously don't follow boxing closely.

The game plan was to not get KO by Canelo's counter punches. It was very effective. If you notice every time Chavez sat on his punches, he would get the living shid countered out of him.

Nacho Berenstain instructed Chavez to let Canelo come to him for the first rounds (which was a stupid gameplan for a fighter like Chavez), and then to start opening up more in the latter rounds when they were banking on Canelo being tired due to the weight increase. They were so wrong.

Definitely fixed. Julio got drunk afterwards w/ 3 sluts in his hotel room. It was a celebration.

It was for sure a farce but i dont think it was fixed per say but as good as. Chavez and his team knew they were guna get some good money for this at a time where his career was seriously ground to a halt. If he had any ambition to win the fight he would of realised 164 was guna leave him nothing more than a zombie, as it was he nearly killed himself to make that weight limit and make sure he didnt get fined a single million but come in as nothing more than a punching bag for the fight.

Oscar gambled on Chavez coming in anything under 170 would leave him in no position to be competitive and it paid off for him. So basically they paid him to not be able to win, they didnt pay him to lose.
