Banks was a very good puncher and Cooper was nothing else but that really.
Carnera was dropped by Sharkey , Stribling, Haynes.None were special punchers.

That is the bottom line, and it is unfortunate.

I came into this argument wanting to produce a high quality debate, where new information would be brought to the table.

It turned into a gutter fight, with neither side wanting to give ground.

Even so, I think that we brought a lot of new stuff to the table, if you can pick through the wreckage!

Schmeling,Walcott and Moore are indeed recognized as top punchers and feature prominently in the 100 top punchers list. The punch Rahman ko'd Lewis with would have dropped anybody.Sanders was another excellent puncher.Braddock was a decent puncher.McCall was a good puncher. Watch the Cooper and Banks kds of Ali both are terrific shots.
You aren't proving anything with these examples and seem to be going around without direction

It's just another arbitrary movement of the goalposts, except now we're splitting hairs on a point that places a fighter into a category of either bum or ATG.

Renaldo Snipes dropped Holmes, and Stribling KO'd 100 more people than him. Haynes had a better KO%.

All in all great boxers can get dropped by any fighter who can hit on any given night.
No reason to single one guy out, and hold his feet to the fire for it, so to speak.

61-8-1 Bowe, and the Carneraistas still are trying to claim some kind of moral victory. Can't make this stuff up.

It takes a special kind of fool to throw around Sanders' name like he didn't have power.

I'm giving Primo credit for knocking out Jack Sharkey
I'm giving Primo credit for beating uzcudun
I'm giving Primo credit for knocking out giant men like campolo
I'm even giving Primo credit for going 15 rounds and losing to Sharkey because he was 260lb and did 15 good paced rounds.
I'm giving Primo credit for outboxing Baer in the parts of their fight he wasn't being knocked down.

All these fights were filmed and not fixed. The film shows these fights were not fixed, wether he looks pretty or not doing it, because he was winning at this level and showing that he could operate at this level, on film, there is enough here for me to endorse Primo Carnera as a real champion. If he doesn't pass the eye test for you, what do you make of vitali and Tyson Fury? Are you going to tell me they were as bad? If not why not? Can I ask YOU that question?

Uzcudun had not been a ranked contender for 5 years!
Campolo was 17-5-1 to Carnera's 53 fights ,he had already been ko'd twice, he was 224lbs at 6'9.5" he was a bean pole and 42lbs lighter than Carnera! Never a ranked fighter .If 18 fight Joshua was matched to fight Campolo there would be a national outcry against such a palpable mismatch !
    Think Julius Long!
You're giving Carnera credit for being knocked down by Sharkey [whose ko% was24%]rising and then going down again when Sharkey came towards him, Prompting Sharkey to claim a win on a foul?
I'll give him credit for taking a thorough beating ,being on the verge of a kayo several times having his eye closed and being comprehensively outclassed.I give him credit for heart and conditioning.

You can name hundreds of fighters that have done the same,eg Briggs v Vitali? Does that demonstrate great ability? Courage yes ! Ability no!

You give him credit for being a great fighter and 87 of us disagree with you.

I don't think anyone will be raving about Fury in 80 years time (few do, even today). And, Vitali gets a considerable amount of criticism.

It would be interesting to compare Carnera with any other HWs, who were Buzzed and or Knocked Down by opponents, 50 to 60 pounds lighter than themselves.

Fury actually comes close, having been floored by cruiser, Steve Cunningham.
Bowe was both hurt by Hide and dropped by Holyfield. But, I don't think the difference in weight in these cases was as much as 60lbs.

I'm sure there must be some examples, both before and after Carnera's time. I just can't think of any off the top of my head.

I thought of the Cunningham kd and how it is perceived as a black mark against Fury, whom Im no fan of.
Cunningham is 6'3" and was 210lbs for the Fury fight.195.5lbs Young Stribling knocked 283lbs Carnera down,
there was an 87'5lbs weight disparity.
If a 6'1" 210lbs fighter knocked down Anthony Joshua ,what would the press say about his chin!
