Golovkin's power isn't overrated. His power is such that if he connects, even when grazing or partially blocked, yields positive net benefits every single time. Therefore, I don't think he prioritizes the one punch KO (Golovkin did one-punch ice the iron-jawed Ishida who took flush bombs from Pirog over 12 rounds).

Golovkin KNOWS that the opponents eventually wilt (except for running to survive guys like cruiserweight Jacobs) if he touches them enough, so he prioritizes accumulation over blasting a guy out with single shots.

    Good post.

People seem to think GGG is all about power. He's not.

He's about keeping balance, having excellent footwork and good fundamentals. The fact that he's got huge power is actually just a bonus.

Deft footwork. Amazing ring cutting ability. Very few wasted punches. Incredible punch selection and accuracy.

Crazy that you have to point this out isn't it but come on who is it that says stuff like this anyway, the same folk who say Canelo is gonna knock Golovkin out,am I right ?

I like this forum and everyone is entitled to their own opinion even if wrong lol,I've long since realised that boxing fans can't be trusted anyway as so many don't know the meaning of subjective.
I've always thought the barometer is other boxers, commentators and those involved in it and I'd say for the most part they all agree that GGG is a man of pure violence in the ring and one only has to see interviews with past opponents and sparring partners to hear that he can crack, why would we believe anyone on here over those that know and why would anyone doubt it?
There's a good Eddie Hearn vid where he was asked about Canelo v GGG and whilst he said Canelo a heck of fighter he said Golovkin a beast and at 160 he feels GGG just too strong and he also said he asked Kell Brook about how hard does GGG hit and he said Brook just blew out his cheeks to suggest he hits bloody hard

Well none of that mattered when Jacobs schooled him.

That's right, legend has it he can bruise boxers with the wind of his punches and has a hook that can move a tank.

The punch that broke Brook's face created a rip in the space time continuum.

Max Golovkin would have been the GOAT if he pursued boxing.

What is with all this Jacobs cruiserweight nonsense I keep reading on here? I know he decided to forego the IBF morning weigh in but what was his actual fight night weight? 175? 180 maybe? Rehydration is and has always been a part of making weight, some are better at cutting than others, get over it. A lot of cruisers are typically 210+ on the night FFS, coming in 5lbs over the LHW limit doesn't make you one of those beasts.

The problem isnt that Jacobs rehydrated 20+ lbs after the unusually timed weigh in. The problem is that GGG couldn't as he had to abide by IBF rules. That is an uneven playing field.

Still though, calling the man a cruiserweight just looks like dumb fanboy behaviour to me. Don't get me wrong I can understand the gripe, but it's really more to do with the the sanctioning bodies not agreeing to the same standards when multiple belts are on the line. The IBF are the ones that have created the scope for such an exploitation to happen. The gene pool is a lottery and not every fighter is created equal; some are born with otherworldly chins, some with crazy metabolism. If you're a trainer going into a fight you're gonna want to maximise any advantage your fighter may have, I would have told Jacobs to do the same thing if I'm honest. At the end of the day you're in there to beat a man that's been called invincible for a decade, whether you take two belts from him or three is neither here nor there, you're going to want to make the most of any possible advantage to achieve the goal of beating him.

Out of interest what would have happened to the IBF if Jacobs won? I assume GGG would have kept it rather than the belt becoming vacant? But if GGG had weighed in above 170lbs on the morning he would have been stripped, correct? That kind of highlights the stupidity of the IBF having such a rule when the other organisations don't, they'll let him keep it if he loses but they'll strip him if he tries to maximise his chance of winning...
