Who's your pick for a British fighter winning a world title? Personal favourites are Lloyd honeyghan smashing curry back in 86, Nigel Benn hammerin Doug de witt for the wbo middle weight belt and Lewis blasting rahman to the canvas to reclaim his crown. What's your choice /choice s?

Not really a big fan of his but Joe Calzaghe dismantling Jeff Lacy and relieving him of his IBF strap springs to mind. I think Lacy was the betting favourite too which made it even more impressive.

Hard to see past Honeyghan beating the crap out of p4p nr 1 Don Curry.

Same here regarding Joe. But the lacy fight was a bit of a shocker. I was one of those that bought in to the lacy myth, expected Joe to lose badly. He put on a master class though, lacy got his ass handed to him.

Its up there definitely. Going over to America, and facing the p4p best fighter and ripped the undisputed title off him! Brilliant performance.

Lacy was waayyy overrated when he came on scene, and he was lazy. A very bad combination to be. I thought he'd lose sooner in his career then later. Calzaghe just happened to be the man. But the Curry loss to Honeyhan a total shocker. Ranks up their with Robinsons loss to Terpin.

I remember Gil Clancy keeping the commentary honest. He was on the button from the outset, immediately picking up on Honeyghan’s confidence in round 1, as if “it was just another fight.” Honeyghan was simply not awed by Curry’s reputation.

I'd also suggest Turpin's victory over Robinson, in their first meeting, is right up there.

One thing we almost never mention. In his first career which spanned a dozen years Ray went 131-3-2. His other two losses were to fighters who outweighed him by 15 and 16 pounds respectively, two modern weight classes. So for the better part of a decade that included well over 100 fights against numerous hall of famers and dozens of top 10 contenders, Turpin is the only fighter who beat Robinson without a significant weight advantage.

The Turpin fight was SRR's 9th fight in 3 months, including 7th in 2 months during his "European Tour". Turpin was just a Bridge Too Far regarding a reasonable fight schedule.

Good stuff littlered. Sometimes when I read about turpin a victory, there's something downplayed in it. Robinson took him lightly and he wasn't beaten the real ray. But it's good to hear your story, gives turpin a respect for what he did.

They don't pack the fights like that in anymore LH. 9 fights in three months! Some world class fighters don't have that in a year nowadays.

I have to say, I didn't give calz a chance against him. Lacy just looked to strong for Joe and I expected a beat down. So I loved that fight, Joe owned him in there.

I know most picks will be a foreigner getting spanked by a brit but i'll add Benny Lynch vs Jackie Brown II in Manchester. Lynch absolutely pasted Brown over two rounds knocking him down multiple times showing tremendous skill, strength and power. The fight often gets completely overlooked in discussion like this which is a shame as the footage exists for all to see and it captures the very best of one of the 10 greatest boxers to hail from Britian and one of the ATG flyweights.
