David Benavidez

I saw the whole fight. The kid is very impressive. Hit Medina with a solar plexus punch like the one Fitzsimmons used on Gentleman Jim Corbett about 125 years ago. Fantastic hand speed....dude hit Medina with several 4-5 punch combinations that were just blurs on replay.

He does get hit a little more than he should have and may be a more macho than he needs to be.

Otherwise.....everyone over 160 pounds needs to watch out for this guy.

 

I was also very impressed with the performance. Though Benavidez beat Porky much more easily than Degale did I am not certain that he beats Degale. Benavidez's speed and combination punching are amazing, but I am not sure how easily he would land on the slippery Degale. James' upper body movement makes him especially difficult to hit in the head, though his body is there for the taking. We know Benavidez goes hard to the body so for that reason I would favor him.

 

Yes a DeGale fight would be different because styles make fights. Medina was right in front of Benevidez the entire fight; DeGale would move around more.

I'd like to see BEnevidez have a couple more fights before he steps up to DeGale.

 

Yes, definitely no need to rush it. Kid's got a bright future by the looks of things.

 

Isn't Benavidez fighting Avni Yildirim next for mandatory WBC. I read an article on the scene a couple of weeks ago saying that winners of Periban vs Yidirim and Benavidez vs Medina would meet later in the year. IMOt hats the best fight at 168 if you wanna see a slugfest

 

DeGale has been exposed a bit in his last two fights. He boxes and moves, but is more a slapping type puncher, and much of the shoe shining isn't even landing

 

Yeah, Degale is definitely not as good as he thinks he is. I think we've seen his ceiling to a degree. He looks very beatable, as elusive as he tries to be. Still, he's a good asset to the SMW division.

This Benavidez looks to be a real talent and I think he could actually beat Degale right now, but I agree with the poster who thinks a few more fights prior to facing Degale would be beneficial to him.

 

He's mandatory now for WBC...I'm eager to see what is next for him...Championship fight next? By his promoter words I think so...

if they were dogs, benavidez would be a 10 month old pup ripping up full grown pit dogs.

 

pit dogs, like boxers, are matched by weight. dimensions favor those that were born with them. the basics of boxing should cover all that.

 

He's certainly not as good as he could be. He mentally switches off for at least 3+ rounds every fight and despite being in the game for close to a decade he is yet to address the stamina issues that can plague him against top level opponents. Regarding his fight with Jack I had it as a draw, albeit a very dubious one. After the first four rounds a pattern seemed to emerge; Jack would clearly beat DeGale up for three minutes, but then take the next off and let DeGale immediately claw it back by simply outworking him with some decent work with the jab. Looking at the two dude's faces after it was obvious Jack won "the fight", but going on a round by round basis like we do in boxing I came to the conclusion that "the bout" was a draw. Unless you score KDs then winning your rounds more clearly then the other guy wins his rounds isn't going to guarantee you a win. Myself and the two friends I was watching with felt Jack was more a victim of the scoring system, rather than the victim of an outright robbery. Just my humble two cents though, I haven't watched the fight back since the night and I was a little drunk at the time too.

you assume, because somewhere you read that 1 dog year is equal to seven in human years, that that is how that comparison works. well, it doesnt, take it from a life long dog breeder. most dogs achieve full length in growth at around 1 year, and full growth in weight at about 2.5 years. humans grow in length up to 22 years and in mass for several years longer. now take that information and work out your estimate, then work out mine.

 

Only Joe Hart I know is an English football player. If you're talking about Jesse Hart the Top Rank fighter I think he took the WBO route, you know, like all the Top Rank guys. I'm not sure what's his ranking with the WBC. Benavidez is mandatory #1 and Yidirim is mandatory #2. Winner of the vacant WBC has to fight two mandatories in a row, but they might pit Benavidez against the Turk.

 

your smugness is amusing when you dont know what youre talking about. many men grow past the age of 21, and in extreme cases, up to 25. exercise and nutrition play a major role in how long you keep growing, and we are talking about professional athletes on both sides of the comparison.
it would take way to long to explain every point made and why it was made, especially when it looks like im 5 steps ahead of you.
