50/50 pick'em fight between the two best fighters in the higher weight classes of recent generations. Both are incredible in-fighters and I think it would be a very, very high-level technical affair.
That's a fair point. Although I must point out that Joe at the time is no spring chicken himself and a 44 years old BHop still has a lot left to offer. Also he got off a bad start with the KD and couple with Hopkins spoiling tactic, it's hard to really shine. Eventhough I pick Joe over Ward, I still think it's going to be a close fight.
Lol, no I'm not, I bet he think so though! I like him, he don't get any credit at all in American but he always fought hard, threw a lot of punches and was durable so it's no reason not to like him. My favorite fight with Calzaghe is his destruction of Jeff Lazy!
Jeff Lazy was in his prime and considered a bad boy at the time Calzaghe fought him, Lazy was ruined after that beating and was never the same.
Joe was taking over in an ugly fight before Hopkins started play acting etc. The styles aren't really all that similar either. When was Hop really an side fighter when Ward does some of his best work? Ward uses his strength on the inside a lot but Joe was a very strong guy even powerhouses like Lacy and Kessler couldn't out strength him - I can't see Ward doing it either and Joes volume would carry the day..
Well, when you consider that 46 of 62 boxing writers at Ringside scored the fight for Kovalev, and that Al Bernstein, Harold Lederman and even Floyd Mayweather had Kovalev winning and that the poll on this forum scored it 75 % in favour of Kovalev, I don't think we can put too much stocking that particular "win." Calzaghe's wins over Hopkins, Lacy, Kessler and Eubank rank as good or better than anything Ward has done so far.
I was at the fight and all people around me, people I didn't know, was confused about the decision, from where I was sitting it looked like a clear win for Kovalev. I saw BJ Flores (corny boxer but good commentator) on the way out and he said he thought Kovalev got robbed as well.
This has been done so many times, Calzaghe always wins the vote. Would be a brilliant fight though, both have the ability to adapt to the fight conditions so quickly and both seriously good Boxers. I think it would be a close and not so comfortable win for Super Joe. Unless its in an Oakland leisure centre ofcourse infront of 9 people and then its an obvious shut out win for Ward.
Andre Ward schools him. I love Andre Ward and his style even though I'm a fan of Kovalev. People severely underestimate Andre Ward, one of the greatest boxers ever and don't give Kovalev credit for what he was able to do to Ward.
l dont know lazy but lacy was a terrible titlist, getting mauled by 40something jones jnr amongst other mediocres. bloody awful. it was still a good win for a wbo titlist such as 34 year old joe cowardzaghe though, proof that he was world class for the first time. but ward is cut from another cloth, no easy route for him from his first title fight (kessler, joes best ever) to becoming number in the next division up . Differnce between being world and elite is clear there. nevermind elite even, coWard is on the way to being ATG. he would destory joe, and joe himself knows it.
Of course. And George Foreman got beaten by Jimmy Young. After Ali ruined him. Calzaghe's first title fight with Chris Eubank was a better win, and he didn't have to go into full Billy Goat mode to get it. Only thing bothering you, Herol, is that Joe destroyed Missus Gee's tensility and elasticity, hence your everlasting bile and spite.
