Great fight this. I think Patterson has the stylistic advantage as he's quicker on the back foot and snappier with his jab. That being said I can also see Patterson falling for the feints and getting caught off balance. I reckon Jersey takes a close decision with a handful of knockdowns.
I see Jersey knocking down Floyd within seconds off the first round. A sneak hard left hook. He'll go down again but jump back up and survive. It ll then turn in to a fight of back and forth turns to hurt each other. Jersey will be in the lead and Floyd will be struggling against Joe s crafty punches and movement. But somewhere in the 9 th Floyd connects with a leaping left hook of his own which sends Walcott flying back, his feet in the air. He'll get back up but Floyd let's rip with a volley of punches, the final one a right hook which puts Walcott down and out.
Kudo to Fergy!! As the Floyd nut-hugger I love it but...it may well have turned out just as you said. Plus, I don't think Walcott (a great boxer/warrior) could keep Patterson down even on his best night.
Walcott's left upper cut/hook that put Ez Charles down for 10 count in Fight 3, would probably do the same to "Falling Floyd".
Jersey Joe by Knockout. I think he could walk Floyd into shots. He had so many moves and could pot shot from awkward angles. Sometimes it look as if he was walking away from his opponent then stop on a dime and whip a hook to the head.
Hi KuRuPT! No disrespect to JJW (one of my favs) but Floyd fought a good number of fighters that hit with much more power. Sonny said he'd never hit anyone so hard. And he was rising. OK, in one of the Sonny fights his knee was still on the canvass at 10. He tasted the Sunday shots of some of the hardest hitting Heavies ever and rose and, except for Sonny, continued fighting. I'm getting sick of all the "any of the great heavies would put Floyd in a puddle BS". I would "find it odd" that anyone would not see Floyd as a possible winner in this scrap.
