Golovkin vs Brook performance clarification

This is a great video and shows a lot of new things that a casual viewer wouldn't pick up on. People don't realise how good Brook is.

 

Brook was the most skillful boxer GGG had ever faced.

Believe it was Malignaggi and Froch who both stated that during the fight.

 

malignaggi and froch cant see straight from behind their egos and bias, they got a well documented history. brook was the fastest fighter ggg has ever faced, which meant he got off first and landed first, thats all that meant.

Correct. GGG was not missing deliberately. Brook made him miss. Little steps and he gave GGG angles.

Yes GGG walked him down but he does that to everyone as he has great footwork and he was too big but people brook boxed well. The punch variety is what surprised Golovkin.

 

Malignaggi was biased?

Before Brook's fight with GGG, Malignaggi claimed that Spence would beat Brook.

But since....he's not so certain.

 

im not talking about this particular comment, specifically, but ask him about pac or mayweather and see how down the middle he calls it. i never trust the word of someone who lets their emotions dictate the truth in a situation.

 

But Malignaggi has openly stated his dislike for Mayweather.

Whereas he's actually backed Spence for a while....and is now becoming less convinced.

The line which i was most intrigued by was (In reaction to Spence) "I don't like the way he has reacted when he has taken shots".

Now I know from watching the WW scene, Brook has the most creative offense. He proved how great it was against GGG, and as I've said in other threads, GGG was more marked up in 5 than he was with Jacobs after 12.

 

Brook certainly showed superior speed as well as great timing and movement vs Golovkin but I kind of buy that GGG was willing to take shots from Brook because he felt Kell couldn't really hurt him. Those Brook fans who think he could have won if not for the eye socket injury are reaching a little in my view, Gennady fought him just like he said he would pre-fight - 'street fight' style and I think if they fought 10 times Brook wouldn't see the bell once.

If Brook moves up to 154 after Spence I could see him grabbing a belt, Hurd in particular I feel would be no match for Special K. Has Kell spoken of how long he intends to continue his boxing career, he hasn't taken much punishment (apart from GGG fight) and looks in great shape. I hope he sticks around for a few years yet, there are lots of interesting match-ups for him and he is a good boxer to watch with a great attitude.

 

This is the key. Spence has never fought someone with the punch selection and variety brook has.

 

i disagree.
when i assess someones credibility, i take into account everything they say, and why they say it, when determining their reliability. paulie is very knowledgeable and fairly intelligent, but he cant seem to separate his personal feelings from factual commentary. he may very well be completely honest and correct about his feeling on brook and spence, but his track record prevents me from taking his comments as seriously as i would a more consistently honest individual.
i dont see brook as "creative", i think he does some things very well and he plays to his opponents disadvantages in a very smart way, but his ggg fight was out of character for both fighters and neither one is likely to ever fight the same fight again.

 

My point wasn't towards the 'Brook could've won but for injury' debate....although i suppose he could have. Maybe he would've had a better shot after 2-3 more fights at the weight....it's all hypothetical.


My point simply was that Brook's creative offence was on show that night. Just look at GGG's face. Considering Kell 'couldn't hurt him', he certainly gave him more facial damage than I have seen from GGG.

Kell actually marked GGG's face after his first power punch landed.

 

Well i hope for Spence's sake he realizes how creative Kell is.

 

i suspect hes seen a fight or 2 and knows the extent of his "creativity".
