I vote Klitschkos. Holmes fought more guys with at least some technique in his title reign (Shavers, Cooney, Witherspoon, Bonecrusher, Williams, Spinks (Michael). I guess the Klitschkos combined fought a few decent guys. All in all, both eras stunk.

I would argue Tyson's reign was worse than both. His best wins were old Holmes and Spinks who wasn't even a Heavyweight. That isn't a ringing endorsement for that era either.

Every time there's a long reigning champ, the era gets knocked as weak.

I don't buy that it's possible for professional boxers to just forget how to fight at a world level for 7,10, or 15 year periods, but it always seems to get painted that way when someone reigns for a long time.

I don't think Marciano's or Liston's era would match up well with either Holmes' or Klitschko's at all, but those knocks always come up more for Larry and Wlad.

John L Sullivan's era must certainly be the worst.

The Klitschko era had quite a couple of decent to very good fighters.
    besides both Klitschko's themselves.
    Povetkin
    Peter
    Sanders
    Byrd
    Mercer
    Chagaev
    Brock
    Haye

    Williams
    Valuev
    Thompson

The Klitschko era was worse by a long shot. And not just bad by boxing standards either , no other sporting endeavour had such a shallow pool of talent the as HW division had between 2003-2014.

It was an embarrassment to sport.

There was no WORSE era...Holmes had better technical fighters but they were not SHW's...most of Wlads era would defeat Holmes era. Haye himself defeats everyone ,even giving Holmes complications...just watch the Spinks fights....this isnt rocket science...lol

Povetkin /Fury/ Haye/ Byrd could have been a handful for anyone...and Sam Peter would have been the 80's Foreman. Like the 80's itself...the 2000's will also never get the actual credit it deserves..tio many fanboys engaged with popularity or in general dont actually know about boxing in itself and try to dissect who didnt fight who and when....

I simply don't see how prime Haye gives prime Holmes enough problems. His technical skills were inferior as were his boxing IQ. He has good handspeed but so does Holmes. And his workrate is non existent. Holmes embarrasses Haye.

Holmes era was just a US domestic scene. I doubt any of them were as good as Byrd and most would struggle against a prime Tony Thompson.

Another bashing of a non-US based fighter is likely.....let's all move along.

P.S. I'd listen to a lot of other sports in this scenario, which explain that as time moves on so does technology and knowledge. Sportsmen are generally quicker, fitter and more 'intelligent' than they were compared to other era's.

That's why comparing Era's is a joke, because quite simply, not most modern guys are always the best.

Just look at world records in athletic sports as an example. The '1 minute mile' used to be considered 'elite'.

I would argue Tysons. a lot of the guys he fought weren't that great. but if I had to put between holmes and klitchko eras I would say klitchkos was worse.

Neither era was bad. If you know boxing this is a very hard question to answer.

Indivualay at their very best, Holmes time had more talent overall, however none were better than Vitali or Wlad for sure, or Lewis. The late 1970's to mid 1980's fighters had issues with drugs, a very fragmented political landscape, and were in general smaller.

Holmes had easier bottom level title defenses if you want the truth.

It's a very simple concept to understand my good friend.

As time evolves, so does technology.

With technology comes greater knowledge of, and access to, good nutrition.
With technology comes greater access to travel, ensuring you can spar with a variety of opponents, in a number of gyms, in a cheap and short space of time.
With technology comes greater access to archives of fighters. Whether this be past opponents, future opponents, potential opponents, simply past greats or even themselves.

For example, even in a relatively short space of time, Anthony Joshua today has greater access to better nutrition, sparring partners, clips of future opponents/himself than Mike Tyson had.

Therefore, comparing Era's is always unfair to past Era's.

Even Tyson himself said before the Klitschko and Joshua fight that he wouldn't be able to compete as well with modern fighters, because of factors such as this.

    Comparing Era's is a bit like making a P4P list.....fantasy.
