Brook made a HUGE mistake trying to come back from the GGG wreck job in 8 months. That was a gigantic error by Team Brook. I can't believe they did that. Now he's done. Honestly, I think it's over for him no matter how much time he takes off.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but was it not the IBF the put the squeeze on Brook, otherwise he would've been stripped?
No amount of rest would have erased the mental scars from his battle with GGG and the subsequent injury that followed.
That too. Apparently his camp told him to vacate the strap but Brook, being a true champion that he is, didn't want none of that. Was it all worth another L and potential career threatening injury? Or was the pay day too good to turn down??
Also likely. Pre-Golovkin Brook probably beats Spence. I was actually shocked at how easily Brook was handling Spence through the first half of the fight.
Him fighting at 160 was stupid in the first place. Unfortunately he refused to admit the mistake and followed with more stupidities.
After Golovkin, it was in Brook's best interests, healthwise, to dump the belt and go up to 154 immediately. Unfortunately, choosing not to do so is something Brook will just have to live with.
Honestly, though on paper GGG made light work of Brook. Brook did hold his own till the unfortunate stoppage. The damaged caused was legit, so I'm not implying anything different. I just feel like people talk as though Brook was steam rolled from start to finish. HIs biggest mistake, as stated previously, was coming back so soon, and not just vacating the belt and fighting a 10-15 ranked 154 fighter instead.
