or possibly ended. brook has been one of the best fighters at 147 for years, yet has had zero promotion. finally hearn slings him in with a murderous puncher 2 weights above 'cuz of ppvees innit bruv' and now he may as well pack it in. hearn has no doubt been good for his bank balance, and no one would begrudge him that, but brook has been horrifically advised and mismanaged. 'but ee well exposed geegeegee dinny ay?'
I think Brook and his team fancied Brook to out box and frustrate GGG and Hearn bought into it seeing how good a career move it could potentially be but they definitely underestimated the devastating punch power of Golovkin and are paying the price for it
well, it is possible. but brook was with matchroom for years before that, and got nothing and got nowhere (yet was arguably one of the best there was at the weight). the GGG fiasco was the result of years of neglect from his 'promoter' and seemed like a desperate attempt to try and gain exposure quickly. it was a gamble that if managed properly, they would never have needed to consider. i just find the whole situation a real shame, he really could have cemented a good legacy rather than desperately cash out after years of nothing.
I think that promotionally his career would've gone much better but for the stabbing after the Porter fight it really set him back and he wasn't helped by the horrendous IBF mandatories he got slapped with when he came back. Fighting Gavin was definitely a promotional error but Hearn and Team Brook probably felt he had to fight a reasonable level fighter before getting in with the best in his division because he wasn't proving anything fighting Jo Jo Dan and Bizier. His insistence on not dropping the IBF belt has cost him as well with those 2 horrible mandatories and taking this fight at a weight he clearly wasn't comfortable at. I'm all for keeping your belts but he could easily have picked another one up in a better fight than the 2 bums he got handed after Porter fight. Let's just hope he can reinvent himself at light middle and come again
do you really see it happening? i'd be happy if he could but he already seems to have lost something quite crucial. well, we'll see i guess.
It just depends whether he can overcome the psychological effects of being beaten like that twice now and the obvious physical effects on his eyes. Best case scenario is he dusts himself off, looks at how good he was in the first half of that fight and treats a move up to 154 like a fresh start, clean slate. I wouldn't back against him becoming a 2 weight world champ but it's going to be tough
Yeah Brook looked finished to me. Worst i've seen him....and it was still very close until the 7th/8th. Fight came at the perfect time for Spence, Thurman, Porter etc.
I don't know about 17 months. What I do know, though, is that he needs to get a very good opinion on his eye. Maybe the eye cannot withstand the kind of punishment it is taking. Maybe GGG did that much damage to it.
17 months seems a bit drastic considering it was a different eye, providing he can recover I would like to see him knock Khan out and then have a crack at 154lb division.
1. Brook got worked to the body. 2. Brook neglected to go to the body. 3. Brook faded late against a better fighter than he's ever beaten as a result I don't see how GGG fits into this.
