Say you wanted to compare an Antonio Cervantes vs Terence Crawford
Jr. Welterweight fantasy Title matchup, and Cervantes record is based on
fighting say at 145 lbs maximum at fight time....and Crawford legacy is based on
re-hydrating up to around 160 lbs at fight time.

Seems like fantasy matches between the "yesterday" vs "todays" fighters, from Lt-Hvy and below weightclasses, are getting harder & harder to compare at supposedly a given weightclass.

I have always disliked having weigh-ins for fighters on the day before a bout. To do so does much to defeat the purpose of having evenly matched boxers in terms of their weight when they are fighting in a bout. I am not convinced that having such weigh-ins is a meaningful health advantage for the fighters than having them weigh-in on the day of a bout. It does appear that old-time fighters were closer to their regular weights while weighing in for bouts than modern fighters.

This is one of the points that I harp upon when comparing modern fighters to "same day" weigh in fighters. The modern "day before" fighters have a significant size advantage especially at the lower levels.

Are there many examples of fighters dropping down a weight when the weigh-ins became the day before? It seems like they stayed at the same weight. Maybe the next generation started cutting more.

Yeah, I asked this exact question a couple years ago and nobody got back to me. I suspect that with a relatively small number of notable exceptions, guys fight at the weights they would have fought at with same day weigh-ins.

    Skills pays the bills.
Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Guillermo Rigondeaux and Vasyl Lomachenko are among the names that fight closer to they natural weight and they still outclass their opponents.
Of course is unfair to think about a lightweight Roberto Duran facing a super weltetweight Terence Crawford, but if The fighter is skilled, he will be fine.

I'm pretty sure Duran was cutting.

I doubt that he was 152 on fight night.

He was probably close to 152 a few days before some of his fights though...

If he had an extra day, he probably would've been. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he put on 10+ pounds with same day weigh ins.

add GGG to that list; his 30-day weigh in for his last dozen or so fights is 165, plus/minus one pound; and at least for a couple of his last 10 fights, his official weigh in was below 159.

How many times has Crawford rehydrated to (anywhere near) 160?

Don't boxers usually hit the scales for their unofficial "night of the fight" weigh-ins fully clothed?

The TV broadcasters said Crawford was at 160 lbs the day of the fight. Just going on what they said. (I remember Arturo Gatti being up around 165 lbs on fight day against some small guy, and the small guy had to quit in the fight..or suffer serious damage).
