Am i the only person who while i thought it was a solid performance and a good win was a bit disappointed with Spences performance the other night? Those of you familiar with my posts know im completely unbiased (unless its FlIVd which i admit) and i do like Spence and Brook as fighters. My problem is that i saw some seriously concerning things in Spences game which if he were facing a guy who could punch (Thurman) or box on the move (Crawford) Spences loses and does so pretty badly.

Spence simply could not avoid the uppercut or the straight right the entire fight. While he has been praised for his punching power and while he did break Brooks orbital he did catch Brook flush a few times with no effect. When he did start to hurt brook it was after that accumulation of body punches which wore down brook and of course the eye issue.
Spence does guard pretty well but foot and head movement especially for defensive purposes is completely non existent. While i dont think he has glass it seemed he got hurt several times during the fight by punches that Brook was throwing from his arms with little or no body behind them. A couple times when Brook actually decided to move he had success and at other times he moved created an opening but was more interested in getting away rather that attacking. There was a point early in the fight where Spence backed Brook into the corner and as he came in Brook side stepped and pivoted and spence lost him and dropped his hands and was completely defenseless but Brook simply backed away. Someone like a Thurman, Crawford and heck even a Pac wouldve jumped all over that and spence wouldve been in big trouble.

This is more of a rant than a really well thought out post and im open to counter points and criticism or even if you agree tell me what you saw.

You're not crazy. Spence showed that he wasn't the monster people were making him out to be, but he's young and can improve.

There are no perfect fighters. Floyd?? Every fighter has holes. The fighter who can exert their will on the fight will win 9 out of 10. Spence, despite his PERCEIVED holes was able to impose his will. And I believe he'd do it again against any current WW despite his PERCEIVED holes.

Think your underestimating Brooks ability. Spence showed he is tough and can find a way with a real top opponent

i think people are overanalyzing.....spence didn't look as good bc of brooks punch timing is what he is good at....plus both men were not only in a physical but also a psychological battle to impose their will on the other so things got sloppy and awkward.

plus, every fighter has weaknesses that get exposed when you face better comp.

I wasnt expecting perfection. What i wasnt expecting was to see some serious flaws some of which can be fixed and some that i think are just a part of the way he fights and likely wont change. I dont think Spence is some bum by no means the kid is the real deal and a tough out for anyone but everyone has him pegged as the next great fighter in the sport and thats not what i see. I had my doubts before the fight and while he answered some questions i and many had he showed himself to look like just another really good ww in a stacked division.

spence reminds me of canelo when he fought floyd. he looked pretty ordinary and most claimed he had been exposed. i knew he wasnt near complete at that point and he would continue to polish what i could already see was in him. i picked him to beat ggg in a few years. granted, i dont think he will beat ggg right now, but he has progressed a hell of a lot and is undoubtedly an elite fighter.
spence has even more tools in his box, that also need polishing, but will be even more impressive than what canelos got now, when he finally finishes out.

Brook is no FlIVd but i can see your comparison. Brook got exposed himself and imho fought poorly. I picked Brook to win but i greatly over estimated his skill in the ring. Cant fight on the inside at all, doesnt put body into his punches, low work rate, holds instead of using his feet to get away or create openings and several other things. If he had done some of these things better its likely a very different outcome for him as spence wouldve been in serious trouble.

The flaws everyone is talking about in Spence are EXACTLY the same flaws I see in GGG. Lack of head movement, gets hit coming in, etc. Yet in GGG, he's an unstoppable monster. In Spence? Uh oh, just wait, he's gonna get knocked out...

spence will continue to get better. lets not forget spence himself said he was feelin good so he relied on his gritt and will to get the fight won. it wasnt his night he pretty much admitted that. but also keep in mind thats what happens when u fight quality fighters like kell brook. spence is the real deal. yes he is beatable cuz everyone is. but i still pick spence to beat jst about everyone.

I can see what youre talking about but does Spence and heck Spence may end up cleaning out the division. The difference is i see guys like Thurman,Crawford, Brook and Porter who are far more dangerous for Spence than whats at MW for GGG.

Spence definitely has flaws, but how he overcame them with sheer grit impressed me more than it discouraged me.

I like Crawford and think he's a damn boss @ 140, but ffs Brook would put Postol in a coma.

Crawford might be a nothing @ 147 and I make Spence a huge favourite over him
I think Spence is the truth and Bud has a long way to go before he entertains the idea of fighting him.

The Thurman fight needs to happen ASAP, I have a feeling Spence dominates him tbh

Spence is green, Brook's experience was the difference. You mentioned Crawford and Thurman; for every flaw Brook has, they have too.

Crawford could possibly win but might struggle in other areas. Thurman might have a bigger punch but struggle to defend against Spence.

No telling. And Brook revealing some of Spence's flaws doesn't mean others can exploit it.
